6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.18 points

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Touch of hay, heather. Herbal notes, winey. Later on some fruit, lemon.
    • Taste
Spicy, a little pepper. Some bitterness.
    • Finish
Light touch of cereal grain. Very light.

  2. Sandman scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Great whisky, just lacks something of complexity for its age.
    • Nose
Honey, apricot, peach, grass, flowers, banana, lemon, hint of tangerines and hint of menthol
    • Taste
Honey, apricot, peach, banana, lemon, grass, cinnamon, nuts and white pepper.
    • Finish
Medium, vanilla custard, apricot, cinnamon, lemon zest, hint of pepper, peach and nuts.

  3. Volanne scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

The effort in mixing peat and fruit is laudable, and the work has been done with honesty, but this malt lacks a bit of passion.

    Tasted blind for whisky-distilleries.info WDTS:http://www.whisky-distilleries.info/WhiskyWDTS/index_EN.shtml
    • Nose
Soft and fruity. Orchard fruits. Golden Delicious apple and perhaps some nectarine. The wood has already brought some vanilla roundness that conceals something grassy. Quite some honey and quince jelly. Crispy like nougatine. The whole is delicately spiced with a pinch of peat.
    • Taste
Soft attack, perhaps even a bit weak (43%?). The mouth develops on a coffee-flavoured hard caramel sweet. Then, the peat comes back on the foreground, more prominent than on the nose. The whole lacks a bit of power and personality though.
    • Finish
Short, marked by a slight astringency.

Not really convincing, specially the finish. A bit disappointing after other Balmenachs I tasted.

  5. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

N: sweet, dairy, grains, bread, apples, peach (looks like a Toshan)
T: bitter, nuts, floral, vanilla and dry
F: dry, fruity, very bitter and later more grains

  6. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

nice with an interesting profile. Diluted, young and easy to drink.

    Tasted under the WDTS: http://www.whisky-distilleries.info/WhiskyWDTS/2012-02/Bottle1.shtml#blamenach18maltman
    • Nose
honey and fruit paste, an earthy side (can be a bit of peat?), herbaceous & spicy, and a lot of spices (cinnamon)
    • Taste
interesting. These are the spices that stand out in the mouth with a slight "new make" side then liquorice and vanilla
    • Finish
long on spices with a bitterness pleasant because mastered
