Aberlour 15-year-old, Sherry Wood Finish, 40 vol, from Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion (4th edition)

A marriage of sherry and Bourbon. Finished in sherry.

    Colour: fuller reddish amber.

Nose: roses, candyfloss (cotton candy), slightly buttery.

    Body: very firm. Smooth.

Palate: rounded, tightly combined flavours. Beautiful balance of sherryish nuttiness, anise, and emphatic orange-flower.

Finish: cookies, licorice toffee. Rootiness, spiceness, emphatic mint, late dryness.

    Score: 84

    From Whisky Magazine:

Michael Jackson Nose: Roses, candyfloss, slightly buttery. Palate: Perfect balance of sherry and the malty, spicy, house character. The two elements are tightly combined, with the spicy flavours emerging slowly: nutmeg, aniseed and emphatic orange-flower. Finish: Liquorice toffee. Mint. Comment: Complex and sophisticated.Doug McIvor Nose: Beautifully mellow, sherryish, grassy with a little marzipan and mint toffee. Palate: Enveloping, creamy and nutty with a teasing sherry and gentle peaty twist. Peppermint prickle. Finish: Long, soothing, with a minty and spicy end. Comment: A biggish-bodied Aberlour which helps to lengthen the complex effects of the double maturation.

Very pleasant... Sweet, spicy, light touch of wood ... A shot of water protects him from the dryness ...

Aberlour 15 years "Sherry Cask Finish" (version in the standard bottle), original bottling, 40% alc.
Maturation: bourbon and sherry casks, finish in sherry barrel
    Region: Speyside, Scotland

Nose: Fruity but also spicy, with toffee and caramel. Somewhat light honey, also nuts are to be found. A touch of nutmeg and cinnamon. The fruit I would classify as a precocious blend of forest berries. Acts rather dry.

Palate: Light and creamy, strong salivation. You have to get used to it first. Funny mouthfeel, which turns into bitter notes. Will dry, almonds and chestnuts, malt and charred bread.

Finish: Medium long with gooseberries, spices and a beautiful oak note.

Conclusion: The palate was strange - the bigger the sip, the better the impression.

Had a dram of this on the Dutch isle of Texel. Nice to have some hard to find whisky there. Willem & Els do a good job for whisky lovers.

A bit high priced but you surely get what you pay for.

"This single malt Speyside was matured in bourbon and sherry casks before

being finished in Oloroso sherry wood, producing a rich 15 year old

whisky with a deep amber hue. A classic Aberlour."
