Whisky Reviews for Glenlivet 18-year-old

Glenlivet 18 is a kind of excellent perfectionist who is trying to be better than he is in his 18. From which side do not look at him, everything in him is well and balanced.
    • Nose
Bright, saturated, wet wood, dried fruits, pastries with raisins and prunes, milk chocolate, oranges, honey, a little berry jam and peanut butter.
    • Taste
A tart piece of wood, dried fruits, a dense body, quite liqueur for its strength, spicy notes of sweet spices and black tea.
    • Finish
Bright, overwhelming wave, quite long, turning into tannins barrels, honey in honeycombs and nuts.

Quite a robust single malt from Glenlivet with a nice complexity, although a tad too oak driven at times.
    • Nose
Fresh with tropical fruits, balanced and elegant. Nectarines, orange peel and a whiff of sultanas. There's a touch of red apples and rose petals too, followed by a hint of sour beer. Good stuff though.
    • Taste
Somewhat acidic and slightly tannic even, but the balance is restored with a few sweeter notes. Lemon zest, oranges, candied hearts, honey, but also a small amount of ginger.
    • Finish
A hint of caramel, but also burnt toast and pepper.

  3. Gloin scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

He is much fresher than I remembered him. The smell takes some time to develop fully. Then he is very aromatic and complex. In the mouth he misses some complexity, but tastes good. The departure is unfortunately somewhat one-dimensional. It's been a few years since I tasted this whisky. Today I am a little disappointed. I thought that the whisky was allowed to mature in sherry casks. Sherry influence, however, I hardly find today.
    • Nose
Orange, roses, conifers, sugared lemon, a little vanilla, a little garden herbs, slightly darker over time, a touch of sweet cherries
    • Taste
Quite a good start with a light body, some sharpness on the tongue, slightly bitter oak notes, again some orange, malt, some garden herbs
    • Finish
Warming, malty, slightly bitter, hops, medium long

    • Nose
Apple juice with a little vanilla, cherry syrup, toasted bread and nuts.
    • Taste
Acid freshness (of the pleasant kind) stands in the foreground. Then the acid disappears briefly and it develops a nice fruity creaminess. Now the acid comes back and combines with oak flavors from the barrel. Nuts in the background
    • Finish
Mid-length finish with spiced oak and raisins.

  6. Kprut scored this whisky 89 points Newbie

Perfect dram for every day, a tart full of butter and berry jam.
The glass sometimes gives off floral notes, sometimes butter and pleasant wood.
One of those bottles that you can drink easy in a week.
    Enviable price quality.

[May, 2015] I emptied a bottle that I bought for 47 Euro in September, 2014.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. My notes state an easy quaffable dram (not more, not less)...

    • Nose
Light sherry, great balance between light and dark fruits. Cognacy. Very friendly fruit complexity. With water more chocolate and toffee. Floral, orange oil, mandarine. All kinds of citrus oils
    • Taste
Elegant sherry, a hint of peatiness even. Slightly burnt oak.
    • Finish
      Baked fruits, bitter citrus oils
