    The Glenlivet 18 yo | 43% | 22 + 22 + 22 + 22 = 88pts
    N: Bright, saturated, wet wood, dried fruits, pastries with raisins and prunes, milk chocolate, oranges, honey, a little berry jam and peanut butter.
    T: Chopping wood, dried fruits, a solid body, quite liqueur for its strength, savory notes of sweet spices and black tea.
    F: Bright, th wave full of waves, rather long, turning into tannins barrels, honey in honeycombs and nuts.
    B: Glenlivet 18 is a perfect perfectionist who tries to be better than he is in his 18. From which side you do not look at him, everything in him is good and balanced.

    He is much fresher than I remembered him. The smell takes some time to develop fully. Then he is very aromatic and complex. In the mouth he misses some complexity, but tastes good. The departure is unfortunately somewhat one-dimensional. It's been a few years since I tasted this whisky. Today I am a little disappointed. I thought that the whisky was allowed to mature in sherry casks. Sherry influence, however, I hardly find today.
    • Nose
      Orange, roses, conifers, sugared lemon, a little vanilla, a little garden herbs, slightly darker over time, a touch of sweet cherries
    • Taste
      Quite a good start with a light body, some sharpness on the tongue, slightly bitter oak notes, again some orange, malt, some garden herbs
    • Finish
      Warming, malty, slightly bitter, hops, medium long

    Good for the price but let’s be blunt...

    For nearly £100 English pounds there are better thrills and spills to be had that what is on offer from the venerable Glenlivet in the current form of their 18 year old.

    It’s not that it’s bad though. It’s a fine scotch. There’s all sorts of things swashing and swishing about. Toasted oak, coconut, more oak, pastries. All excellent stuff on the palate (the nose is rather less exciting) but it leaves you thinking they forgot to add the magic ingredient. It’s just a bit forgettable.

    But some kind words; like many people have said, it’s extremely well balanced, everything in its place, well behaved and easy to drink and enjoy. Perfectly behaved but oh so dull.

    For an 18 year old I’d expect more hutzpah, more oomph, certainly more phwoar!!! But what we have is just loads of well behaved, well mannered, manicured scotch. Tasty, golden, light and malty but a placeholder for your next great drink, whatever that may be.

    Next!

      Fruity; Sherry; Heather and fresh fruits; very cute; a touch of raw cake dough; a hint of nut and a nice touch of oak; Citrus for me to recognize clearly. Overall, very refreshing and delicious
    • Taste
      87 87
      mild start; first sweet then slightly dry; the oak shows up stronger and builds up; nice and round and brings dark chocolate. Nice spicy, a hint of honey
    • Finish
      89 89
      Sweet; Sherry; Oak; fresh fruits; a little chocolate and a little bit tart; The egg does a great job and gives the malt a nice character and completes it perfectly

    Quite a robust single malt from Glenlivet with a nice complexity, although a tad too oak driven at times.
    • Nose
      Fresh with tropical fruits, balanced and elegant. Nectarines, orange peel and a whiff of sultanas. There's a touch of red apples and rose petals too, followed by a hint of sour beer. Good stuff though.
    • Taste
      Somewhat acidic and slightly tannic even, but the balance is restored with a few sweeter notes. Lemon zest, oranges, candied hearts, honey, but also a small amount of ginger.
    • Finish
      A hint of caramel, but also burnt toast and pepper.

  9. Schlossgespenst scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

    A great old Speysider, on the one hand uncomplicated can be enjoyed, on the other hand, but also has enough facets to delve into it.
    • Nose
      Mature, old. Heavy, flowery scent, later increasingly spicy and woody. Yellow fruit, honey melon, overall a sweet, complex fruit basket.
      A typical older, mature Speysider.
    • Taste
      Firm body, creamy and fine-grained. Fine oak spice dominates initially, every now and then, a hint of flowering, such as the above-mentioned light fruitiness.
    • Finish
      Slightly woody spiciness, some nutmeg, also here a light, perfumed flowery. Overall, this lasts longer than it would be trusted.

    The 18 year old with the best value for money!
    Already a very good Speyside Single Malt!
    • Nose
      beautiful complex aroma: oak, sherry, sweetness and fruit (plums, berries, oranges);
    • Taste
      sweet, aromatic on, then sherry, toffee, fruits, nuts; oily, complex;
    • Finish
      long, sweet finish, malty, slight bitterness;
