    Somehow the young barley juice with its little smoker and the venerable wine barrel do not exactly harmonize. Since a not yet mature distillate by previous fumigation of the malt and adding a barrel with previously renowned filling trimmed to salable. - Now I see on the backlabel as distillation date "Apr 2011" and as bottling date "Nov. 2011". Since the Langenthaler but probably a bit too deep stacked ...
    • Nose
      light smoke, then sweeten sweet caramel and blackberry and mint back. The wine barrel also hints at meaty aspects. Thoughts of toothpaste come to me ...
    • Taste
      Herbal parts, but still the somewhat inappropriate sweetness
    • Finish
      and everything explodes along with dull licorice. However, the young liquor abduct most of the shares relatively quickly and leave behind an even slightly watery finish.

    The "Old Bear" is prepared in the same way as the "Old Deer", but with slightly smoked barley malt, hence the additional name "Smoky". The smoking takes place as with meat or fish: When drying the germinated barley, the drying air is mixed with smoke, the flavors of which are reflected on the barley malt and pass through the further processing steps to the finished product.
    The "Old Bear" is stored in oak barrels, in which previously Châteauneuf-du-Pape was developed, a very strong deep red wine. Its traces can be found again in the "Old Bear": An intense red-brown color, in the nose nice wood and smoke notes, in the taste a typical malt component and in the finish discreet smoky taste with a slightly vinous undertone.
