Conclusion: very tasty and almost too tasty due to the quick finish ????

Scapa 14 years (bottled in 2007)
Nose: first impression is a ripe honeydew melon, then comes a light mint which is rounded off by a pear compote. Overall a pleasant fruity sweetness with a pleasant somewhat dusty impression
    • Taste
      85 85
Mouth: It starts with green fresh wood, then becomes fruity and has a mild attack. Then comes a delicious white almond chocolate
    • Finish
      81 81
Finish: It is still briefly on the tongue and then a hint of pear remains. After a few minutes there is still a very subtle almond pudding on the palate until it is finally gone.

A cool summer day after the rain!
Orange, lemon, quince, cherry plum, banana, peach, old yellow apple, cider, green tea, honey, hay; fresh but slightly damp wood; half-baked rye bread, pastry, oatmeal cookies, glue and minerals!

  6. Jackson05 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Unsure how much of scapa ends up in blends, but it totally makes sense. Very inoffensive, soft and coastal malt with soft charm. Would work very well in a blend. Needs higher abv to shine though.

    Colour: gold
Nose: sweet, muffins, citrus, apples, plums, caramel, pears and sweet fruits.
Mouth: sweet, citrus, oak, pepper, spices and pears.
Finish: middle, spices, oak, vanilla, citrus and grass.
Scapa 14 YO is a good balanced, smooth and tasty whisky.

  9. Calmar scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

The predecessor of the current 16-year-old, simple, it is possible to say primitive, watery and weakly expressive. Boring, 16-year-old came out much more interesting.
    • Nose
Malt, lemonade, mineral tones, dry pebbles, citrus - lemon skins, lime, leather, sea salt.
    • Taste
      Malt, caramel, oak bitterness
    • Finish
Toffee, cream, light ginger burning, boiled vegetables.

Quite an easy Scapa but worth the money back in the days.Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10

Somewhat one-dimensional, especially disturbing is the poorly integrated alcohol and that at only 40%. Not mine.
    • Nose
oily, alcohol, vanilla, malt, some creamy toffee, some straw and sawdust
    • Taste
despite only 40% of the alcohol dominated, malt, some creamy toffee
    • Finish
even here the alcohol and then comes the draft, which is mainly bitter.

I like the fruit in these older bottles just a little one dimensional, I much prefer the 16 year.

Still worth getting if you can find it for the right price.

Scapa 14 yo (40%, OB, c. 2003) A brand new bottling by Allied, with a new livery. Colour: amber. Nose: fresh, light and grassy. Lavender. Hints of fruits (pineapple, green pear). Whiffs of smoke. Nice! Mouth: surprisingly bold. Some farmy notes, hints of tobacco and some nice fruit: apricot, quince jelly, melon fresh almonds. Very nice! Rather long, fruity finish. Nice presence at 40%! One step above the former 12yo, I’d say. 82 points.

  29. MaltMartin scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

This was my first Scapa ever. I like it very much because of the soft saltiness it has in the finish. Sad that this whisky has been replaced by the less enjoyable 16 year old.
    • Nose
Soft and a little sweet. Fragrant. Heathery. Herbal notes.
    • Taste
Maltiness. Fruity tones of melon, apple and pear. Liquorice and cinnamon. Slightly spicy.
    • Finish
Not that long. A little pepper. Later on delicate salt.

  30. markjedi1 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

I seem to have been mistaken in keeping my
expectations low, for this was rather good. Typical aperitif dram.
    • Nose
The nose is very fresh and floral with a tropical
touch. I am reminded of freshly mown grass and lavender on a bed of pineapple
and white peach. Very fitting with the sound of chirping birds in my garden.
    • Taste
Oily mouth feel with some sherry influences in the
shape of juicy fruit: pineapple again, but also melon and quince. Like I said,
very fresh. Midpalate I also get some tobacco and a whiff of smoke. It remains
      fresh and soft.
    • Finish
The finish is quite fruity still, with some nuts at
      the death.

Nose: Papaya, hints of alcohol and smoke, a bit flowery, slightly salty seabreeze

    Mouth: slight sweet, flowery, mild

Finish: medium long, mild, again a bit flowery

Comments: This one is rather subtle all around, but I really enjoy it. Very smooth all around and a nice nose. This was a sample I tasted from but I wouldn`t mind buying a whole bottle. Also I believe the 14yo is discontinued and replaced by the 16yo...

A nice alternative to the other Orkney distillery.
    • Nose
Spicy, sweet, and and floral (heather, lavender, camellia).  Jordan almonds. Well cooked pie crust.  Apricot jam.  Softly smoky.
    • Taste
Honeyed and sweet.  Some light caramel, then oak.  Spiced mixed nuts.  More fruit jam.  Is that cinnamon in the background?
    • Finish
      Medium, fruity, and spicy.

  34. HunterRomario scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Buttery oil, a bit flat, light fruit, for me was a relatively unmistakable odor about the biggest weakness of this bottle, for which the points went down quickly.
    • Taste
It was very decent here, the initial onset was weaker, but then a full palette of richly chocolate-woody-spicy flavor appeared to make the impression.

  35. Feusi scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Fresh fruity floral with notes of wood, the finish is slightly spicy herb, however, retains the sweet notes from the beginning. Mild and pleasant to drink, honey and wood and a nice smoke in the background.

  36. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Wonderful aroma, but the rest just feels watered down. Shame really..
    • Nose
Smooth and sweet fragrance, but a deep one. Lots of citrus and a little sherry.
    • Taste
Wood, vanilla and honey. But it feels watered down.
    • Finish
Short to medium long. Far too few flavors.
