I think there is still a lot of digging in the DE of laga. Different eras have different performances. The PX of the 80s and 90s is very different. The ones I've tried have all had a good experience. And the DE series of Legavelin is really much cheaper than the same level of quality. great

Compared with the conventional OB, the laga peat under Shirley has changed from a bonfire and heavy smoke to the feeling of wet peat, iodine, disinfectant, and paint. Of course, I think it is stronger than that. Works like 12SR are lower; the oily feeling is very high, higher than other regular wines, and the wine body will be thicker, which has nothing to do with the alcohol content; in terms of flavor, I actually prefer the bourbon ratio of music. Gavilin, mainly because the price is affordable and there are fewer pits.

The sherry peat at the entrance feels great, and the seawater is well preserved; citrus, honey, herbs, and spices, PX brings a lot of mixed aromas of herbs and spices, and fruit is not its main line, but this kind of People bring a sense of "advanced", the feeling of old Shirley, of course, its richness and complexity have not been well represented. Really great though

Medium strength, medium to short length, syrup, herbs, oak, some red wine tannins, dates, interesting and durable

The thick sherry has taken away too much of the complexity of the distillate, but at least there is no denying that the whisky is delicious.

A lot of Lagavulin enthusiasts are telling the story of the good old days (in fact the 1980s), when the Lagavulin DE was much more sherryed than the 90s versions. Well, the true part on this story is the PX. The more detailed version is about too much PX. In my opinion it is in fact a fantastic dram, not so much PX as in some versions from the 80s. The 80s versions are worth the try but the gras isn't always greener on the other side. 90s versions (this time the 1991 bottle) are worth their money too (a bargain compared to the prices for an 80s bottle in the year 2015).

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10 (2015)
    • Nose
Sweet, sirupy, oranges, smoke, wet wood, sea and sherry are in a fight.
    • Taste
Creamy sweet smoke, smoked candy, the sherry is dominating the Lagavulin.
    • Finish
Medium to long. The PX is not to dominant and gets lost after quite a while. The smoke stays back with a sweet touch.

Peat and iodine are not all. There's got to be texture and complexity. And this one has got it all.
    • Nose
Coastal but right into the sea. Seaweed, tar, iodine… Nothing is missing. The smoke rises up and releases creamy notes of toffee. Apple loft.
    • Taste
Voluptuously sweet with that briny dryness in the back.Hint of kippers (with a touch of butter).
    • Finish
      Lingering,smoky.Licorice.Pepper.

The 16y in Sueßer and more complex ...
    • Nose
First, dense, aromatic and medicinal smoke. This is followed by a pleasant sherry sauce. Maritime notes in the form of kelp follow.
    • Taste
Here you can see the biggest difference to the standard 16y: The otherwise so heavy, medical smoke is suppressed by the expressive PX-Sherry
    • Finish
As with the 16y only sueßer.

  19. Feusi scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Sweet fire flows in the nose, malty sweetness is overtaken by the smoke. Pleasant to drink, beautiful, soft and long lasting.

This Distiller's Edition is a great success, and we are here with a Lagavulin sobriquet that blends sherry and peat very well.
    • Nose
We are on the same notes as the OB 16 years old classic but more balanced and more discreet because come to mix scents of wood (waxed, varnish), cherry brandy and also a little bit of nuts. Here we have the influence of the sherry cask.
    • Taste
The mouth is much more rounded than the OB. We have aromas of green nuts, undergrowth and precious woods, all supported by a light peat moss.
    • Finish
Long on the classic notes of the OB namely peat, smoke and marine notes. The influence of sherry is more discreet on the final so.

A superb Lagavulin, more than strongly recommended.
    • Nose
We stay in the same family as the 16yo (iodine + peat), but the sherry has made it more complex: more fruits (bitter oranges), more animal (leather, smoked ham), a dryer coal smoke, rubber, tobacco, and still smoked tea, but of a different nature from 16yo. Excellent.
    • Taste
There too, more complexity but also more power. A lot of smoke, ashes, but also salt, iodine, bitter orange, tobacco and gentian. Top top top.
    • Finish
Long, slightly bitter (gentian), smoky and iodine, with a hint of acidity (bitter orange peel confit).
