I somehow avoided this distillery (except for OktoMo), at first, during the hobby of peaty Ayla - because of its unreading, then - because of an unimaginable number of releases, to understand which there was neither desire nor finance, but everything I also decided to try the non-tormented Ayla of non-commissioned bottling. Imagine my surprise after opening the sample and the first nose - from all the variety of releases I got the most that neither is peat (yes, you need to look closely at the labels).
Well, let's get closer to the case - in front of us is a sample of beautiful peat whisky, powerful, young, deep and quite diverse in shades and colors; spicy, absolutely not spirituous, fine work with a high fortress - in general, everything that we expect from the young Ayla.
    • Nose
Dense, saturated, smoke, warm burnt coals, ash, dry peat, in the background - lemon peels, smoked products, new leather products, not spirtuzen.
    • Taste
Powerful sweet and smoky attack with pepper and charcoal, lemon, burnt sugar - very nice, the fortress is absolutely not felt.
    • Finish
Sweet with sourishness on a smoke-peat background, a little bit of bitterness.

Briljant at this age... amazing spirit from Bruichladdich.
    • Nose
Pepper, peat and the Bruichladdich baby vomit.
    • Taste
Pickle, citrus, seaweed and bbq fire. Just perfect...
    • Finish
Pepper, vanilla, some liquorice, rubber and meaty bbq note.

This malt is just a sensation! What a nose, what a body, what a beauty. It is an early Port Charlotte dressed in a Bruichladdich suite. Indeed a "Perfect Dram"!!

Tastes a bit too young but the smell is fenomenal. It`s an oily, peaty, harbour smell residu and I really like it.

Port Charlotte with a straightforward, deep peat blast. Maybe not the best value for money compared to other independent Port Charlotte or the official releases, but certainly good quality.
    • Nose
Quite aromatic for such a high alcohol content. Sweet peat and plenty of minerals (wet sand, graphite, wet wool). Very focused on peat but luckily we also find some hay and leather. Even tiny farmy notes.
    • Taste
A sweet blast of peat and soot. Then the sweetness fades and the whole gets earthy, rooty and more herbal, with a soft zesty bitterness in the background. Only for peatheads.
    • Finish
Long, ashy and lemony with some liquorice root.

It is definitely not a standard of Bruichladdich, unless you take Port Charlotte line into consideration. While blind nosed I would definitely shoot for Port Charlotte (it has this PC peat sweetness in it), while blind tasted I would additionally consider Laphroaig. Worth tasting, worth drinking, however considering the price of e.g. PC8 or similar aged Laphroaig the price is unreasonably high. Anyways, I truly enjoyed my dram.
