    At first I approached this drop with some false expectations: I was curious about the drop that had ripened in the rum barrel. No, this is a peaty whisky, matured in a special, sweet barrel, which broadly frames the smokiness. The use of water (not just a drop!) Does not harm pleasure, on the contrary.
    • Nose
      Menthol / mint, pineapple, a smoker (for me more than "hints of" according to the official leaflet), bubbly, sultanas and figs: young, but still promising. The longer you sniff, the more the peaty character comes to the fore.
    • Taste
      Smoke, somewhat bubbly, but broadly underlaid by the preconception of the barrel, especially pineapple
    • Finish
      wide, fruity-ripe, smoked, always with a bit brittle background

    great nose, the taste lacks a little of the barrel influence. Very good midfield
    • Nose
      Rum, grapes, alcohol, some fruit, no smoke. With water it becomes fruity, apricot, sweet honey melon
    • Taste
      Prickle (Alc.), Sweet, in the finish then some smoke. With water milder, sweet, comes to the end a little oak, but not much, the smoke is even weaker.

    N: pastry, citrus, honey, nuts, pear, peach, floral - lavender, roasted barley and the Springbank glue
    T: spices - pepper, citrus, grape fruits, black berries, black currant - cassis, melon, a touch of smoke, pine wood - resin, oily and nuts
    F: vanilla followed by soft herbs, ginger, orange, pastry, pure and bitter chocolate and citrus

    The rum nicely complements the tropical fruits that are typical for Springbank and is not overpowering, though very clearly present. More apparent than in the Rum Wood OB at least.
    • Nose
      Peach, pineapple, liquorice, currants, peat smoke, currants, rum beans and a little petrol.
    • Taste
      Coconut, milk chocolate, dried apricot, ginger, honey, rum beans and vanilla ice cream. An oily mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      Dried apricot, honey, peach, smoke, rum beans, rye bread, white chocolate and a tad of deep-fried snacks.
