Whisky Reviews for Balblair 1957 GM

  1. pilgrim77 scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Soft and fruity nose (similar in some
ways to the trademark Balblair fruitiness present in more recent
vintages/bottlings, but softer and better integrated into the whole), with
creamy butter, hazelnut, tablet, sweet tannins and soft oak all coming through
after a little bit of time in the glass. Incredibly elegant and well-balanced.
I could easily sit and nose this one all night! One drop of water didn't change
the profile at all, and I wouldn't want to add any more. Buttery and soft on
the palate, balanced by some lovely cracked black pepper. Medium length finish,
slightly drying and with the oak present, but it never tips over the edge into
bitterness. A soft, gentle, and elegant elder statesman with plenty of
    character. Really lovely stuff!
