fine, sweet on the palate, spicy with desire, citrus flavor ... like all the MO OR bottles of very high quality

    Macduff 37 yo 1973 (46%, Mo Òr Collection 2011, bourbon hogshead #20, 281 btl.)

Nose: quite a beautiful mixture of beeswax and oranges. Fresh green figs, red plums. Leather. Dried apricots. Hints of toasted bread. A little hay. Cinnamon and cloves. Nougat. Also subtle hints of herbs like parsley and dill. Very complex and constantly coming back to the wonderful beehive / fruits combo. Quite excellent. Mouth: rich, still juicy, even though the fruitiness is hard to pin down. Honey, waxed oak, oranges / apricots maybe. A little mint, cinnamon and pepper. In the end it gets a bourbonny oak kick, but it’s nicely controlled and a real asset here. Finish: medium long, slightly thinner, but nicely minty, with some citrus tea.

A great old Macduff from an active bourbon cask. Similar to some Glen Grant or Caperdonich from the same era. Around € 175, expensive for a 50cl bottle.

    Score: 91/100

  5. Master Quill scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Color: Gold

Nose: Very elegant wood, and nutty, perfumy, nougat. Old saddle leather, distant dark chocolate and fresh mint (unbruised leaves). Old furniture, hints of wax-polish, waxed shiny chocolate.

Palate: Spicy (wood) and half sweet, the elegance stays. Great balance in this one. Minty and sweet. Absolutely not too woody, yet the wood plays a nice role in the balance of the whisky. This is an old cask, so the minty sensation is there, a bit of old bottle effect I guess. The great palate breaks down a little in the finish, like it`s trying to say that it`s time for bed. Now the oak plays a greater role in the finish, and turns slightly soapy, but never enough to let the experience down. I Like!

    Points: 88

    Original Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweety with nougat and caramel. Ginger, and hints of leather and dandies.

Taste: Fresh and full bodied, with mint and hazelnuts.

Finish: Quite long, with mint chocolate. Instandly After-Eight springs to mind.
