Whisky Reviews for Kinclaith 1969 TWT

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

One of the least tasted 'modern’ single malts whiskies in my book, Kinclaith is of course rare as hen's teeth. Lowlands Single Malt from a pot still inside Strathclyde Grain Distillery. The still was just operational for a few years, dismantled in 1975 and subsequently demolished in 1982.
    • Nose
Starts dusty with old library books and ancient furniture. Followed by maltiness and some cereal notes. Dried bread. Quite some nettle and a touch of heather. I got some eucalyptus and hints of mint as well. It's very-old style with a metallic edge, but a bit indefinite at the same time.
    • Taste
Unexpectedly fruity with plenty of dried apricots, caramelized apple, and overripe melon. Later on more on gingerbread, cinnamon, and toasted almonds. Ginger too. Notes of sponge cake, butterscotch, and toffee in the background.
    • Finish
Medium-long with white pepper and a little clove. Buttery oak. Becomes salty at the end. Not a real stunner, but in particular the palate is okay.

    Original Tasting Notes

Nose: An True delight for the nose. Wonderfully versatile with flowers and herbs.

Some liqourice and peppery aromas too.

Taste: Smooth and silky, creamy vanilla and honey notes. Sweet but in a

    sophisticated way.

Finish: Fresh and fruity. An exeptionally smooth and sweet finish and just when you

think it has left for good, it returns for one more time....
