Cream brule, toffee, nutty Danish pastries, Dundee marmalade, vanilla, raisins, cloves – an intriguing, delicious nose, but be warned, it also had something burnt; was it cinder toffee – or just cinders? The unreduced palate gave sweet toffee, sticky cherries and vanilla, but also a robust, ‘real man’s marmalade’ (orange AND grapefruit); with a nippy after-taste. The reduced nose had liquorice stick, cough lozenges, Turkish coffee and some resinous, flower-stem greenness. On the palate – toffee, coffee, caramel, pencils, menthol and chocolate held in a rubber glove; overall, very pleasant – indeed ‘stunning for its age’. From a distillery on the edge of Tain.
