Whisky Reviews for Old Pulteney 08-year-old GM

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.29 points

  1. StyrianSpirit scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

This Pulteney looks extremely fine and filigree. In addition to the salt and herbal notes, the smell also has delicate sherry aromas, but these no longer appear in the taste and finish. This eight-year-old Pulteney develops a pleasant vigor. An easy, but still an 87-point pleasure for me. With all the spice - the young age of eight in the form of a slight bitterness or similar. is not noticeable in any way.

The Pulteney character is immediately present: salt spray, herbs, a little grape; and also a little bit of sherry. Here he is closer to the 15 Pulteney than the 2006 bottling or the 16 year old Pulteney. But it is dominated by the salty, fruity Pulteney flavor, including some marjoram. The longer the Highlander is in the glass, the more intense the fine spicy smell, which is now accompanied by honey notes. You should leave this malt as long as possible.

This Pulteney is light. And the herbs now dominate: marjoram, some chervil. The fruitiness is pretty much gone; There is no longer any trace of the sherry and the pulteney-typical bourbon barrel vanilla grapes can only be heard very gently. But now waxiness comes to the fore and it cannot be denied that these 40% appear somewhat "thin".

The end, in turn, is longer than would have been expected after the very light appearance in the mouth. The herbal seasoning and the salt spray, paired with the fine waxy, have a medium-long effect.

Much better than expected, and tastes older than an 8 year old.

    I like it.
    • Nose
Pleasant nose on orange and beeswax with a little honeycomb.
    • Taste
Quite spicy, on ginger , caramel, milk chocolate (hints) and a little meaty taste.

Not a complex profile but it is a good one.
    • Finish
Medium length with a spicy finish.
