I would rate the influence of the wine as positive, nothing stunning, but solid. The high alcohol content results in powerful aromas, but also does not unbalance the malt. For the full review go here: https://halbendrinks.de/2022/09/25/relicts-of-st-magdalene/

Certainly not my favorite St. Magdalene. He has a lot of very good ideas, but, to paraphrase a football metaphor, he never finishes. I miss the dirtiness a bit. The finish cannot keep up with the button and certainly not the nose.

If you don't let it breathe, the alcohol will blow you away. The treatment with wine adds a decent cinnamon note. That's probably not the expectation! With some oxygen come grassy notes. Just like some fruit and also a little paraffin.

Loads of sunflower oil and honeydew melon. Add pepper and salt too. Then apples and oranges on a high meadow.

The end is salty and sweet. Unfortunately, the great variety of flavors is no longer available here. Bitter notes are mixed in and you can probably still guess the wine cask.

    Linlithgow 1982 - 2011, 28 years, 63.1% alc. Bottler: Signatory Vintage. Expansion: Wine-Treated Sherrybutt No. 2202

Nose: The alcohol pulls sharply through the nose at first, a little time and air is helpful here. There is a lot behind it. Flower meadow, linden blossoms, apples and ripe apricots, then engine shed, lignite, waste oil and lemon candy. A resinous herbal component then develops, which makes me think of mountain pines in midsummer.

Palate: Intensely sweet and oily. Grape seeds, summer apples, oranges and honey, some mango. In addition quite a lot of pepper and a mixture of almonds and walnuts. The St. Magdalene then becomes drier and slightly sticky, green tea with a slice of lemon.

Finish: Medium length, again grapes and grape seeds, slightly sweet and quite bitter, some oak and nutmeg.

Conclusion: In the nose simply terrific, on the palate and in the finish this gem unfortunately weakens a bit. 85/100 points (2022)

No easy nose. Alcohol comes out very pungent here (63%, no wonder).
Hay, citrus fruit, lubricating oil. Bright fruits like unripe peach, quince. Elderflower.
Freshly baked marble cake and gooseberry.

Even with plenty of water, the alcohol here is a bit harsh and the whisky is very alcoholic and peppery.
Very floral and fruity. Sunflower oil, pears and apples. grapes, shortbread. gooseberry and kiwi.
    White chocolate.

Medium length, sharp, slight bitterness like from grape seeds.

A somewhat strenuous fellow. If the alcohol had been integrated better, I would definitely like it better, but for me it's unfortunately a small flaw.
But definitely interesting flavors to be found here

Amazing that after 28 years this old whisky still hs a strength of 63,1% ABV. Did they store this cask in a fridge! A whisky with a bite.
    • Nose
Malty and herbal. Floral notes of hay and heather. Some fruit as well: melon, pear and green apples.
    • Taste
Punchy (mind you; 63,1% ABV) and oily. Very sweet but also spicy (pepper). Lots of fruit now, much more than on the nose. Especially apples: I taste notes of apple pie and apple blossom.
    • Finish
Quite fresh. Mint. Becomes more bitter later on.
