    soft, intense, grassy, woody peat, then wet and dried seaside herbs with the spray that goes with it.
    orange, tangerine and cooked grapes, sherry well in place, woody also after that feels
    velvety softness that emerges from the glass
    sweet, fruity, fairly fresh peat, then a little liquorice, a little spicy on white pepper, cream of fine almonds and malt, a little honey
    the peat is more animal, meaty and with dried herbs again, the spice is felt more under the tongue, a little bitterness is released.
    finally dark chocolate with a return of creamy, bacon and grassy peat.
    the fruits are on cooked orange and the candied zest in a little burnt, caramelized.
    oily, fruity, even sweet peat, salted caramel, wood, liquorice, all that lasts at the bottom of the glass.

    Slightly better than your usual Lagavulin 16 but not by much... quite weak for a 48%

  3. Rom scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

    Nose well peaty, ash, candied orange. Oily texture, a lot of ash, charcoal, iodine, a little caramel, the mouth is salty. Long salty finish with flavors of ashes and fish. Very spirit driven, difficult to detect the sherry cask.A straight and well done dram, enjoyable when we love peat. Thanks Tomy for the sample!

    light amber color, very nice well typed nose Laga sherry, peat, iodine, algae, tobacco, ash, chocolate, orange, soy sauce, level Feis Island. Beautiful attack on the palate, light, fine, with a thick texture, on the aromas of the nose. In the end, the 48% are felt, it lacks a little punch. Finale of medium length, on ash, spices, chocolate, slight bitterness.

  5. ARDBERG scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    has everything Lagavulin except the omph - 48% is just a little weak

    It's nice, but I like the profile of the 1995 Distillers Edition even better. That mineral touch is something that really distinguishes this one from other '95 Lagavulins in my opinion. 88/89.
    • Nose
      Toffee, peat, cherry, orange, plum, raisin, minerals and limestone.
    • Taste
      Peat, toffee, dark chocolate, orange, cherry, oak, minerals and soy sauce.
    • Finish
      Peat, dark chocolate, orange, plum, cherry and minerals.

      Peat, licorice, and a steady revealing Islay with well appreciated cask notes. The sweet, yet revealing oak notes drive it home, for me. I'm not phased by the 48% ABV. I derive more out of this.
    • Finish

      It continues to haunt with its phenolic, licorice, wood notes long enough to merit attention.

    Very nice Lagavulin. In the nose it promisses some fruits, which I did not find later on, but still enough nice flavours to really enjoy this one.

      Peatsmoke, ash, tobacco, as usual. But then: Prunes, and when it develops, lighter fruits come through: Citrus, oranges. And spicy, cinnamon, and some coffee even.
    • Taste
      89 89
      Sal ammoniac at first, licorice. Sweet smoke, ash, honey, some pepper, pretty strong. The fruits from the nose seem to have disappeared, but the dram itself is very nice balanced and attractive still.
    • Finish
      89 89
      Still some pepper, sweet smoke. Strong and full, pretty long, honey, and the coffee is back now, with some chocolate.

    A great and very good Lagavulin ...
    • Nose
      distinct sherry flavors, only moderate smoke;
    • Taste
      full, spicy on, plenty of sherry, a slightly "earthy" note, mouth-filling, stimulating the mucus;
    • Finish
      long-lasting, harmonious, pleasant finish;
