Colour: Pale straw
The nose, not untypical we thought, displayed orange and apple, pineapple, toffee, vanilla, grassy, herbal notes and a hint of rose – but also varnished wood. The unreduced palate was also quite fruity (apple, banana) with sharp boiled sweets, treacle, liquorice and new wood. The reduced nose offered fruit salad chews and vanilla ice cream – later turning beautifully aromatic, with lemon sherbet and kiwi; remarkably bright, youthful and vivacious. The palate, with water, had a pleasant, creamy texture, with mellow toffee, vanilla, butterscotch and humbugs (that hint of spicy heat providing good staying power). The distillery lies just west of Tain.
