    Magnificent Clynelish with nice balances.
    • Nose
Waxy fruits, unripe banana, walnut, citruses, salted minerals, spicy oak and metals.
    • Taste
Spicy oak. Salt and pepper. Waxy fruits, vanilla and lemon peel. Wood smoke.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, oaky.

Perfect balance for me in this one around its delicious zesty flavour. The nose is great, the mouth is a tad simpler but great too.
    • Nose
Another typical Clynelish nose. Wax, varnish, fruits (apple, pear and later a few exotic ones). Ginger, walnuts and mineral notes too.
    • Taste
Waxy and zesty. Pepper. And those mineral notes again. A pinch of salt afterwards.
    • Finish
Long, zesty, spices lingering on the palate and salt on the lips.

    A nice crisp, clean Clynelish.
    • Nose
A few metallic notes and white fruits are what springs to mind first. Apple, grapefruit mainly with a few wafer notes. After a little time in the glass there is whipped cream.
    • Taste
Very fizzy but also fruity with a little woody bitterness. The white fruits are on the palate with cream and warm light sponge cake. Quite full on the palate with the trademark waxy profile present
    • Finish
Good medium length and finishing sweet.

    Clynelish 28y 1982/2011, 53.7%, Malts of Scotland, MoS 11015, 275 bottles
Expressive fruity and waxy nose, we know Clynelish 1982. The fruit, that is peach, pear, banana, pink grapefruit, melon and pineapple. Light tropical after a while. The waxyness that is smooth beeswax and candle wax. In addition, the nose is sweet (honey and vanilla) and a little salty. The whole is supported by oak and spices (cinnamon and soft pepper). Those herbs are more prominent than in other 1982 people. Firmly and mouth-filling on the tongue, fruit and herbs in perfect harmony. Fruit: grapefruit, lime and pineapple. Herbs: mint, pepper and cinnamon. Here too, the salt, the vanilla and the oak provide extra complexity. Long warming aftertaste, with the honey, citrus and herbs that make up the service. Again a very nice and nicely balanced Clynelish. I just love it. 91/100

  9. Bishlouk scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Quite different from the youngest Clynelish. No smoke here, all about juicy fruit, syrup and stew. A candy.
    • Nose
A hyper-fruity and exotic nose. I have the impression of smelling a basket of fruits from the fresh islands. Varnish and beeswax. The varnish develops as the dram evolves.
    • Taste
A continuous stream of syrup and compote of exotic fruits. A real creamy treat.
    • Finish
Salty spikes come to mix with fruit syrup, always present.

  10. WhiskyNotes scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

For me this is the better Clynelish of the two, especially on the nose, although you could say they're two different kinds of whisky alltogether (this one showing a slightly more 1970's character). A little more expensive though.
    • Nose
A lot punchier than the SMOS cask. More green banana. A tad more oak as well although that may be part of the higher strength. A lot of honeydew melon and beeswax (warm and honeyed compared to the sharper oiliness of the SMOS). Walnut liqueur. Apples with cinnamon. Some biscuity notes. Guimauves (the white ones). Great nose.
    • Taste
Punchy again. Key components are vanilla and grapefruit this time, with some peppery notes. Hints of sweet almonds. Less complex and slightly less convincing than the nose, but still a nice whisky. Lemon zest and a slight coastal edge towards the end.
    • Finish
Long and elegant, zesty at first but coming back to a fruity sweetness.
