Decent for the price but a shame that the taste doesn't match the promise of the nose.
    • Nose
Freshly made apple and pear crumble, baked bread, cinnamon, vanilla, a lovely light and sweet nose, honey and sponge cake.

With water - the sweetness intensifies with a touch of milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Heavily wood spiced, cinnamon, clove, a bitter/astringent note, a little peppery.

With water - a light licorice flavour develops and slightly offsets the astringent note.
    • Finish
Short/medium, the astringency fades to leave cinnamon mixed with salt and pepper.

With water - medium, the spice is just as prevalent but with a vague sour wood note.

Easy to drink, not complex but very good quality. Very surprised at how good this was for the money.

Spicy, woody notes dominate, yet, in a way I like. Rather rough but pleasantly so, not stomach-aggravating, to me.
I like the sensation and of the spicy and woody aromas on the palate. The finish is also pleasant.

It could be more balanced and complex, but I understand that this is a rather consequently engineered dram, not made to be everybody's darling but a character, and that it is. Especially for the price.

For price this is amazing. Rather closed start, yet finish go's on and on - that will be the Clynelish & great cask selection. Cannot take ANY water.

For my money - it's even better than the Gasgow blend (which is very good in a smoky/ sherry way), but thats just personal preference. Really, both bottles should be on every Whisky lover's shelf.

Great blend which almost generates an onslaught of (tropical) fruit notes, honey and vanilla. Quite impressive.

A Blend that is drunk without making head but that will not remain etched in my memory ...
    • Nose
Alcohol slightly powerful, fruity, pleasant on vanilla, honey and wood.
    • Taste
Fine Fresh, diluted (too much?) Then come spices, vanilla and fruit (Sherry?)
    • Finish
Not long, on vanilla, wood and spices.

This is an excellent whisky to enjoy anytime, anyplace, anywhere. I actually first tried this at a whisky festival and was very impressed with it.

This is another excellent vatted malt from Compass Box.
    • Nose
Some fresh melon, it has that new book smell, white pepper, white lilies, pear drop sweets, bubble gum and banana cake. nice and sweet and light.
    • Taste
This is very smooth, sweet and fruity. Virgin Oak and citrus, some vanilla and green apples, banana and custard, white grapes, it sits well in the mouth, give it a good swirl and there are lots of other fruits.
    • Finish
A Lovely medium marsh mallow finish.

Bought in 2016. I was curious about Compass Box and was not disappointed. Nice tasty whiskey.
    • Nose
First, floral aromas, sweet fruits, pineapple, mango, then spices
    • Taste
More powerful than it smells, difficult to discern single aromas, spicy, baked apple, medium complexity, well balanced
    • Finish
      Very long

    My notes from 15-8-2014
    • Nose
Citrus, apple, yogurt, vanilla and honey
    • Taste
Lime, orange, bananas, melon, oak and pepper
    • Finish
Medium, sharp wood, cereals and creamy

N: Estery, sweet and nutty [like Balblair 1997/2008] with a touch of banana pancakes and even less [of a touch] of peppery fruit, ooh and rhubarb crumble. Rather highland in style [Clynelish?] with [bourbon oak] fruit sweets providing a solid base for this fairly open blend, although i reckon theres a touch of sherry cask in there too? High quality no doubt.
T: Good power for a 43% blend. Starts malty and spirity with plenty of pepper/spice turning to chocolate - oak showing much later. It unravels itself at a good pace
F: More pepper, skimmed milk, chocolate and aniseed. Theres a fair balance although the spirit is a tad more dominant than the casks which is not surprising considering its age. Wouldn’t 12 years be great.
C: Not a great deal of complexity but its fairly open and honest with a true delivery and finish. Solid quality blend that would sit comfortably alongside comparable single malts. It doesnt however take too well to water and has nothing on the far superior Spice Tree [batch dependant].

    Scores a C+

Stunning value for money, available for anyone. A blend of young and "oldfashioned". Light and delicate, with slightly spicy finish. Affascinante.

  17. Ivynor scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Very simple, with good power, easy to drink and creamy. Rather successful.
    • Nose
Rather creamy, citrus, a little mineral.
    • Taste
Cream of orange and vanilla, a lot of vanilla! Slightly sweet.
    • Finish
      Oranges and vanilla.

  18. KayMeertens scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Beats many single malts in its price class.
    • Nose
A lot of vanilla, vanilla yoghurt even. Furthermore citrus, malt sugar, caramel, lychee, apple and honey. Very gentle.
    • Taste
Citrus, fudge, orange, pepper, vanilla and peach.
    • Finish
Toffee, lime, vanilla, orange and a whiff of smoke.

  19. numen scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

    from a purchased sample
    • Nose
Ah yes, this seems to be a rather more delicate number. Light smoke,
vanilla, lemon extract (more than the fruit), waxiness, and that candied
barley. Still fairly malty. Sugary frosting. It's very sweet to me.
Eventually there's more creamy vanilla, almost like a light-fruit orange
      sherbert.
    • Taste
Creamier with more diverse fruit notes than on the nose. Peach,
apricot, melon, and honeydew. Oak is definitely there, hitting rather
big in the mid-palate and back of the tongue. Less complex than the Oak
Cross, but a bit more together and with fewer rough edges. Otherwise,
fairly in keeping with the nose.
    • Finish
Hmm, a bit of a quick finisher. Pleasant and soft. Sweet, sugary at
points, and malty. The oak is present, though it's a bit disjointed. If
the finish were longer, this would surpass the Oak Cross, but it's just
      too brief for me.

  20. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Does not feel young despite the NAS. I would never have guessed this to be a blended whisky if tasted blind. Very well made. This would be a dream to try at cask strength. Mr Glaser, please come with a CS version of Great King St next time.

    (Rating interval 82-86)
    • Nose
Cereal, apples and pears, aceton, lemon juice and icing sugar. Some subtle smoke in the background, very elegant.
    • Taste
Explosion of spicy oak, pepper, fruits and honey, not sweet honey though. The palate is dominated by the oak, very restricted sweetness yet very good balance between the flavors.
    • Finish
Medium in length, grainy spicy wood, white pepper and hay. A very spicy finish with some sweet barley and a second wave of grape fruit.

  21. Jimjam scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Really fine on the nose - the grain rounds off the malt sweetly and subtly. Balance and depth on the tongue. This is a very good, *crafted*, light but enjoyable everyday drinking whisky. Dangerously pleasurable.
    • Nose
Grain, custard, baked apple, vanilla, spices
    • Taste
More baked apple and custard, oak
    • Finish
      Long, pleasant tail-off

  22. zinaf scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Great whisky. There so many malts that are far behind this blend.

It is not overly complex, but is vibrant and fresh and is a real joy to drink.

    • Nose
Nice citrus notes (lime; grapefruit), vanilla, sawdust. Good sweetness as well. Citrus and sweetness are the predominant dimensions on the nose.
      Something rubber-like appears too.
    • Taste
Good body. A bit of a prickle towards the middle on the first sip.

Sweet, vanilla custard, fudge. Those lovely citrus notes add a great dimension - like lemon pie.
    • Finish
Medium, with some cerials and sawdust, also something sour.

  23. Toffie76 scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

One to go for quality/price. Very Nice exemple of a well made blended scotch in a modern form, unchillfiltered and all the rest of it. High quality grain whisky and a large proportion of malt whiskies well married together. What else?

  24. HunterRomario scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Bravurni, in the category of blends, top and phenomenal.
    • Nose
The smell is malt, sweet, citrus, and tangerine. I would not bleach in a blind test by accident, this is a single malt flavor, a very pleasant thing. (84 b)
    • Taste
Vanilla, honey, citrus. The body is not as thin as I expected, which is a positive shock. The finish is spicy spicy. (85 b)
