Colour: Polished chestnut
We found a fabulous, unusual nose – polished oak, coconut and perfumed smoke; curry spices, toasted sesame seeds and aniseed; rum and raisin ice cream and a cobbler’s shop. The palate delivered extraordinary taste intensity; butterscotch, rum, cardamom, star anise, black jack chews, sweet coconut and shoe polish. It took plenty of water, with the nose developing buttery popcorn, marmalade, chocolate sauce, orange barley water and pepper on water-melon. The palate remained exciting – lots of syrupy sweetness (flapjacks, barley sugars) orange Cremola Foam and big, woody spiciness (pepper, ginger) providing a long after-glow. The distillery is owned by Whyte & Mackay.
