  6. Bishlouk scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Not bad at all, I like! Not as fine and subtle as 21 years old, but a very good alternative at a very affordable price.
    • Nose
The sherry is quite marked. Dried fruits, tobacco, wood, brown sugar, spices, black plum, hazelnut shell. A classic sherry nose, nice, well done.
    • Taste
Round and hot. Bitterness of dry wood. Liquid brown sugar, dried fruits, exotic spices, hazelnut. The alcohol is well balanced, the reduction is not noticeable.
    • Finish
Long. Smoked wood goes up in the nose. A spicy heat remains in the mouth.

For me it's hard to find a way through the sulphur -

the second tasting was therefore dissapointing from the nose,

so I had to correct my note ...

Glendronach is definitely my kind of whisky.

    (Rating interval 87-90)
    • Nose
Heavy oloroso sherry notes, with raisins, dades, cacao and molasses. Water brings out some organic solvent like teak oil or varnish. Briny with artificial banana flavored candy.
    • Taste
It is sweet and spicy with figs, raisin and dark chocolate fudge. The whisky has a fantastic body...
    • Finish
...which gives it a long and substantial finish with more dried fruit and christmas cake.

  12. TDMartijn scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Very nice and drinkable whisky @ 46%ABV. Doesn't need water. Thick sherrywood influence makes this one a bit off-balance.

  13. Malt Hans scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Woody and spicy aroma, cinnamon, cloves, mustard, peat, red apples, warehouse, fermented tea leaves, vanilla and dry hay. Medium sweet taste, pepper, eucalyptus, orange marmalade, oregano, vanilla and demerara sugar. Long, spicy and fruity end.

  14. mikespike scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

Without water it showed a bit too much wood influence for me. Wood, Sherry and nothing else. With a few drops of water it became a bit smoother. Not a bad whisky. Just lacking more other complex notes, 84P in my book.

http://www.weinkenner.de/2013/glendronach-tasting-teil-1-standardabfuellungen-gute-qualitaet-fuer-kleines-geld-27903/ Color: Full gold with bright amber
Nose: Heavy sherry nose, oily, creamy marzipan with lots of honey and caramel, espresso, balsamic, mocha and burnt gum, roasted nuts and slightly salty orange. Add mint and dry leather.
Taste: Very round and balanced, with lots of nice sherry, herbs, a lot of salt and orange liqueur (bitter orange / orange peel) as well as grated chocolate pairs and slightly smoky oak notes.
Finish: Pretty long, the wood is now stronger. Dry-herb with some bitter almonds and cocoa flavors.
    87 points (nose: 87 / taste: 88 / finish: 85)

  16. Sonett scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Marzipan, toffee and caramel, light roasted coffee grain, red berries
    • Taste
Sweet soft growing fruity taste with light spices
    • Finish
medium long to long finish fading out in bitter almonds and oak

  17. markjedi1 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    A nice Speysider in
general and a good GlenDronach in particular. Better than the Revival, if not
    much.
    • Nose
      It is very aromatic
and fruity, but also very herbal and flowery. I get some red fruit,
elderberries and espresso, but mostly herbs like basil and thyme, maybe even
some chervil, come through. Some roasted nuts, walnuts, sweet malt and roses.
Balsamico as well, but not too much. Praliné. It has an edge of struck matches,
but it does not become sulphury, something I did get on the 15 Year Old
Revival. Becomes better if you leave it for a while.
    • Taste
      Pretty oily on the
palate, but very sharp. I am probably kicking in an open door when I say the
influence of the sherry cask is big. It reminds me somewhat of grenadine. Nutmeg and mostly ginger. Slightly bitter towards the end.
    • Finish
      The finish is medium
to long, striving but not quite achieving a balance between the berries and the
      oak.

  18. granella2003 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Matured exclusively in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks best.
    Unfiltered cold.
Deep gold color and shiny body pià than dark. On the nose aromas of sweet fudge and dark muscovado sugar. Hints of fruit jam and morello cherries give considerable complexity. palate is rich and seductive. Significant hints of stewed fruit, spices, mix well with the other notes of walnut bread and chocolate orange spice. Finale Tremendously complex and persistent.

  19. granella2003 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Appearance :Bright deep gold with a tawny centre.
Nose :Sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar. Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity.
Palate :Rich dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classical aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange.
    Conclusions :Tremendously complex and long

  20. granella2003 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Sweet aromas of toffee, sugar and sherry with hints of fruit
    • Taste
Rich and tempting taste of stewed fruit, rich variety of herbs with the characteristic features Oloroso and hints of walnuts, bread, chocolate and orange
    • Finish
Incredibly long and rich aftertaste of sweet sherry

After the first dram i didn't like the whisky at all... it took almost half the bottle i got used to the strong oak aroma. Since then i really started to like, not to say to love it... A wonderful experience!
    • Nose
dark fruit, dark caramel (Storck 'Riesen') and chocolate 70%, oak - The nose is the best part of the whisky
    • Taste
sweet red fruit, spicey (nutmeg?, cinnamon?)
    • Finish
boom! a lot of oak, starts dry, sulfur, rubber... then it gets sweeter like chocolate 60%, maybe some nuts, ends with a fresh feeling in the mouth (mint?)

  22. Igor scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

This 18 years old spirit demands some respect and politeness of you. Sir Allardice will never show you his true noble character until he's good and ready. Be patient thus, it's worth the effort.
    • Nose
Rich, complex, very intense. Well needs time to open up prettily. Ladanum, butterscotch, coconuts, chicory coffee, tyre casing, dying out bonfire.
    • Taste
Blackberry, dried apricots, lime juice, full/rich brandy flavours, barley sugar candy.
    • Finish
Rather short but balanced aftertaste. Cream, tea with milk, an unlit cigar, burnt rubber.

  23. Willie JJ scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A full on sherry cask, but a charming experience nonetheless
    • Nose
Dried fruit, gravy browning, cinammon and cloves
    • Taste
A mouthful of gentle spices with the cinammon and cloves coming to the fore.
    • Finish
      Sizzles to a delightful finish
