Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 2000 KiW

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.64 points

  1. molar3rd scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Nose: Youthful. Sweet and extremely smoky. Dry smoke that is. Some fresh cut lemongrass as well.
Palate: Huge peat, tons of ash. Astray licking at its best. A few malty notes here and there. Old leather. Getting bitter. With tar and carbolic soap.
Finish: Very long. Waves of peat and smoke Keep on coming and hitting the palate.

All in all, this is not the most complex whisky you can get, but it’s not supposed to be that. It’s young, kicking and delivers the right amount of peat and smoke to you : The peat-head. If you are not keen on peat, or prefer lighter whiskies, look elsewhere. A very nice wintery dram, simple, and to the point. Will surely keep you warm in the winter nights.

Very good young Caol Ila. Well balanced, and beautiful nose!
    • Nose
Beautiful peat, reminiscent of smoked meat and cured meat. It combines and blends with a vanilla ice cream. Surprising and greedy.
    • Taste
Powerful, sweet, smoked and a little lemon, iodine, vanilla. It's pretty fat.
    • Finish
Smoked sausage (Sophie Morteau!) Hem ... Always marine notes. Good magnitude.

    http://www.weinkenner.de/2013/vier-caol-ilas-aus-dem-bourbon-fass-30638/ Color: white wine
Nose: notes of soapsuds with lots of lemon, vanilla and some peat. The whole thing quite salty and very sprittig, the peat is initially somewhat suppressed. (In the nose, it reminds of the young Port Askaig bottlings).
Taste: Vanilla and lemon in combination with peat and smoke and sweet honey. This sweetness dominates at the beginning and is getting more and more intense.
Finish: long and sweet, with slightly bitter green notes and peat; finishes off with pure peat and super sweet honey-vanilla note.
Remark: Imbalanced and definitely too sweet for our taste!
    74 points (nose: 82 / taste: 75 / finish: 65)

  4. ardpeat scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

a ten years perfectly mastered that seems older than his age (a young teenager with a mustache) a very clean and refreshing whisky despite a fairly high alcohol content. to drink very small sips to capture all the flavor of this small fat fireball rolling on the tongue
    • Nose
Smoked peat with a hint of bergamot and caramel.not a great complexity but very refreshing like a fresh spring wind
    • Taste
the mouth is very fat and leaves a tingling on the tongue. the alcohol is very present but very well controlled. the flavors are mixed together and it is very difficult to isolate one in particular
    • Finish
      long and full of heat
