Whisky Reviews for Littlemill 1989 LS

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.02 points

The nose is expressive and suggest a fruity syrupy whisky.
Crisp sherry mixed with various fruits including orange and blackberry.

The fruit and sherry combine nicely and there is a little peat in the mix, no need for water this is fine without it.

    This is a tasty Littlemill

The nose is the best part though the taste is not lagging far behind.. A very interesting combination of shellfish and honey/syrup.
    • Nose
Quite dry, raisin, dry hay, a really pleasant syrupy oak, dried fig and date, evens and opens up gradually, honey, Ida red  -apple that strengthens, the whole becomes more fresh with time.
    • Taste
Grain, luscious scallop, anise and a hint of Zubrowka, the Polish bison-grass-vodka, sweet and syrupy, sweet&sour sauce, malty butter, a nice and strong shellfish: shrimp, mushell and scallop.
    • Finish
Really good, soft malty and honeyed. Middle long.

It takes a moment to find the Littlemill under the sherry but it's there.
    • Nose
Colour darker than the Berry Bros cask 11 next to it, cask 11 being pale yellow and the LS one having a richer golden shade with a copper tint. Someone called the LS one perfumey, which has a ring of truth to it since the refill sherry cask seems to have imparted more than just some colour. The whiskys have a recognizably similar base but the LS version has more sweetness and pungent flowery notes.
    • Taste
Neat it's a bit odd. The initial attack on the mouth is delicious and very likable but midway the taste begins to turn into a mixture of alcohol and perfume. Some water improves it a lot, bringing up some of that taffy I felt was overdone in DL OMC cask 9443. Wine gums. A dry rich body. The taste turns halfway through, this time into soaked old wood and sprouts.
    • Finish
When given enough water it isn't as flowery and sweet any more. The dryness is accentuated and I think the whole improves quite a lot. I like the way this lingers even when reduced.

Nose of meadow flowers, honey and caramel apple. Sweet attack but the development is well wooded and astringent as well as the final. Nice nose but the mouth is below.

Nose : lemony strawberry, hay, sunshine on a floral meadow, orange juice
Taste : sawdust, liquorish, lime fruit, roses
Finish: long and mellow a bit bitter softened by that hazy feel of grass in the sun

    • Nose
Citrus fruits; orange, lime. Green apple. Hawthorn fragrance. The nose is very fragrant. A hint of tobacco, maybe. And cereals. I also find caramel, light.
    • Taste
On the palate, what the nose foreshadows is not found completely. Vanilla and honey are added to citrus fruits and cereals. I detect some rusty metal.
    • Finish
Comfortable without being long, the finish leaves a little honey and vanilla.

This Littlemill is a bit perfumy for my taste.

    • Nose
raw cereals (wheat & barley), wet oak & some sawdust, grassy, dry peppermint tea bags, some tobacco, vanilla-licorice, minimal lemon, (86)
    • Taste
upfront oak - lots of it,  malty, vanilla with a touch of caramel, but not much chance for anything else to come through next to the oak, but surprisingly yummy, & seems to get less woody over time (88)
    • Finish
mellowing out into nice maltyness with quite a bit of vanilla, some apricots, multi fruit wine-gummies & honey appear next to the ever present but very pleasant oak note as well.  (90)
