I divided my sample over two drams and tasted these few days apart. This whisky was already pretty great the first time (especially the nose), but taste and finish clearly benefit from some extra oxidation. Wow!
    • Nose
      92 92
Very fruity with a honied sweetness. Floral, some lavender, vanilla, yellow apples, sweet orange syrup, pear, a little peach and eventually a cake note and quite a pronounced baked apple sprinkled with cinnamon. Also some more dusty wood notes and nutmeg. Yup, this is very good indeed.
    • Taste
      90 90
Initially fruity with the honied sweetness from the nose, vanilla, apple, pear, peach, some dried apricots and more of a bitter citrus note. The development indeed shows a shift towards more clear wood notes like clove and quite some pepper, also a little tannic with a faint note of lavender, but it's not really getting the upper hand.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium length: honey, a quickly dissappating fresh fruitiness shifting more towards a bitter orange/grapefruit note, eventually turning into drying oak wood.

I liked it a lot, but then after the 3rd or 4th sip some weird notes surfaced. The nose is the best and reminded me a little bit of the 1973 speysiders. But this is by far not as good, good whisky by itself though, cask influence is quite dominant.

Really nice nose, then dominated by the crass soap note unfortunately both the taste, as well as the finish. Far from a 90-point whisky, with all the love.
    • Nose
      90 90
Fruity and sweet from the first moment. A light freshness as well as a subtle dry oak in the background, but fortunately very covered. Ostensibly but a richly covered fruit basket with a beautiful apple / honey note. Surprisingly, with some time in the glass, it tends to become drier and tend towards the oak.
    • Taste
      79 79
First, the continuation of the well-known flavors from the nose. Fruity and with beautiful sweetness, the oak quite restrained. However, after a few moments on the tongue a really penetrating, strong soap note, which does not want to disappear anymore. Mouthfeel, alcohol - everything fits. But the soap spoils the taste here very clearly, which superimposes everything else within seconds. Really a pity.
    • Finish
      80 80
Unfortunately, the soap note does not want to disappear anymore and sticks to the palate. The basic flavors are only to be guessed and would basically promising, but just can not really get through.

An excellent old and fruity Glenlivet.
    • Nose
Apple, pear at first. Honey and mint, grassy notes too. It develops on ripe apricot.
    • Taste
Continuity of the nose with honey, fruits (yellow and tropical). A bit of oak.
    • Finish
Medium, fruity, slightly spicy and minty.
