Nose: Fresh, floral, slightly spirity and meaty, on orange,
tangerine, cherry and some hot spices.
Taste: Very sweet and malty, before becoming very spicy
(curry, coriander, mustard and pepper), with some meaty notes. Quite smooth,
but with a certain oakiness. The finish is long, bitter-sweet, spicy, peppery,
and slightly rough. Diluted, it becomes more on caramel.
General Impression: The South African sherry butt gives a
different flavour than European Sherry casks: it is a bit rougher and closer to
the American Sherry casks (for the ones who have tasted it). The winey
influences disappeared some weeks after opening.
