My 100th Mortlach tasted! Unfortunately not the best.

The nose is ok, but I miss the actual depth in this Mortlach.
    • Nose
Clean, fruity - peach and apple. A waxy note, citrus, almond paste and oatmeal cookies.
    • Taste
Honey, malty, vanille, some spices - pepper and some mint.
    • Finish
Medium drying, vanilla, honey, cake, yellow fruits and oily.

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Mortlach 14 yo 1997/2011 (57.7%, The Whisky Cask, bourbon)  Colour: white wine. Nose: another clean, fresh, Mortlach au naturel, but this one’s fruitier and a little lighter than others, without much sooty/metallic/meatiness. Barley syrup, apples, white peaches, a few lactones… So it’s a little less ‘Mortlach’ than others, and could be a neighbour. With water: same feeling. The oak comes out. Mouth (neat): very fresh, and very lemony, bright and zesty, with plenty of grass beyond that. Gooseberries, pineapple jelly, a touch of salty liquorice. With water: it became fatter, even fruitier, and better. Some thickish fruit syrup with a spicy background. White pepper. Finish: medium, rather on pink grapefruits this time – this is very vivid. Peppery aftertaste. Comments: this one loves water on the palate. SGP:551 - 86 points.

Very fresh, apples and pears. Young but not too young. Lots of vanilla and buttery. Taste has some Lemon zest with sugar. Finish has some nice pepper.

  6. Lafroy scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
A lot of freshness and sourness, watered grass, fruit freshness, spring flowers, impregnated oak, some hay, white currants, hints of toffee, dried lemon zest, green apple peel.
    • Taste
It opens with a lot of sourness, spring fresh fruits, white currants, honey sweetness, white grapes, then sourness goes towards spices, dryness and hot sensation on the palate. It's definitely fruity and spicy at the same time.
    • Finish
Medium long, sour and hints of white grapes, very fruity with some dryness at the end. It's  also warming and peppery.
