Tasted blind. Really very good. Peat accompanies the fruit perfectly.
    • Nose
Exotic nose, camphor, citrus. It's quite fresh and powerful. Austerity presents. An old springbank?
    • Taste
Exotic fruits, light peat, lemon, citrus, camphor, light ash.
A priori we are on islay.
      It's mineral, austere.
    • Finish
Finale on lemon, pebble and cold ashes.

    • Nose
Discreet pear, later joined by fishing, but still muted. Smoke subtle, giving a moment on a soot a little dirty, then opening, more "clean". Slightly saline. Some malty notes and aromatic herbs.
Almost wise compared to what will follow.
    • Taste
Peat and spices form an unstoppable duet, of great power but never overwhelming. Discreet fruity and well-balanced bitterness.
    • Finish
We take the aromas of the mouth and ... we double the power! What fireworks of peat but especially spices. Pepper in the lead, but a great complexity and variety of spices follow in the procession. Ultra long and bright.

      Nose and mouth 4/5
      Final 5/5

On the nose, intense iodine, the saline side that we find at the exit of a dune, then exotic fruits!
back by the rather strong smoke peat, lemon and creamy fat!
    • Nose
      salty smoke, spices, crushed banana.
    • Taste
spices!! then soot, even ash, then crushed fruits still, not candied, like this famous banana which gives off a tenacious smell, almost dirty, rotten!
otherwise, it's sweet on the palate!
    • Finish
      long, fine and persistent.

  5. Thermidor scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Chalkiest nose of the night's tasting lineup (casks 5339, 5343, 5348, 5349, 5350 and this one). Nose: Slightly fruity in that old peater's vaguely tropical sense. Some seawater. Neat the taste is not that impressive. It's muted like a too old miniature, with some ammonia, smoke, and faint wood. Water really helps open it up, making the finish stick around much longer and the body develop some firmness. Neat I thought it was a rather weak whisky, but H20 rescued it and made it my 2nd best whisky of the set.

When other tasters were polled for favourites, this one got the least points. I believe water added directly into the glass made all the difference.

While I liked this one, at the price it fetches now I would not buy one because it did not blow my mind, which a 500 euro bottle certainly should do.

    + H2O: gets sweeter, rounder and smokier 01.04.2017 93
    • Nose
Q: Light gold Kippers pulls over, then comes fruity sweetness. Some alcohol and smoke. Over time: jelly bananas, exotic fruits
    • Taste
Light body, sweet smoke - fruits and alcohol, but refined, no loud Islay representative
    • Finish
      very long, so
