The slight bitterness added by the three extra years of aging is interesting, but not necessarily better than its smooth 12 year old wunderkind sibling. When taking your time with this one you'll be able to appreciate the woodiness some more.
    • Nose
      80 80
Honey, fruity, tropical, cereals, but also a bit tangy and a tad alcoholic.
    • Taste
      88 88
Caramel, baked banana, butterscotch, a tad of oaky dryness but very creamy nonetheless.

Not as easy drinking as the 12yo, but a tad more to explore.
    • Finish
      90 90
Mouthfeel of those hard sweet peppermints, grapefruit (interestingly!). Quite long, this is where the age shows, too.

    Appearance: Golden-amber colored oily nectar.

Nose: Raisin, sherry, fruit cake, cinnamon, cherries, figs.

Palate: Licorice at first, cinnamon and cherry, vanilla, medium oak, pepper, caramel. Leather. Rich and oily palate.

Finish: Warm and sweet, sherry and raisins, light licorice, peppery smooth and long.

    With Water: Did not bother.

Overall: Wonderful drink, more oily and richer than the 12. Worth ¥300 more for the shot, bottle price possibly not worth it because the 12 itself is so nice.

Redbreast "15 years", original bottling, 46% alc.
Extending: sherry (Oloroso) and bourbon barrels
    Region: Midleton, Ireland

Special feature: "Pure Pot Still Whiskey"
Nose: immediate dark fruit flavors in the nose, beautiful sherry notes with berry fruits (blackberries, currants) and mild coffee aromas. In addition, nuts and the fruits are now a bit lighter. Pineapple and apricots, marzipan.

Palate: More fruit and really many spices, a beautiful sweetness spreads in the mouth. Drier, also here is the sherry influence: coffee and dark chocolate, raisins and walnuts. The flavors are rounded off by the taste of baked apples.

Finish: Medium to long. Dry and spicy, the spice runs the rank of the fruit. In addition, a slightly fading sweetness, honey and a little vanilla, as if the bourbon - with the sherry casks deliver a match here.

Conclusion: Positively surprised, I really like the Irishman. A whiskey for all connoisseurs of unspoiled fruit bombs.
