  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Very tasty, light whisky, which is often "overlooked", at a bargain price (25-30 €). Would be a pity if that disappears.
    • Nose
fresh-fruity - citrus, apple, white wine ... plus light dryness, some cinnamon and nutmeg, nut
    • Taste
first fruity-sweet (somewhere between gold bears and canned fruit cocktail), then creamy-nutty, caramel, malt, peanut butter, and again nutmeg
    • Finish
medium long, mild, velvety dry, a little green apple and nutmeg

Easy to drink, the wine comes through clearly without dominating the whisky. Very pleasant and intense for this price.
The long barrel aging gives the dram some depth despite the low alcohol content. Here one would wish for a little more, but it's only 10 years.
With this wine rather a rarity and therefore something special. I would like more experiments on this. But this one was definitely a success, no bitterness from the wine

  5. WhiskyRanked scored this whisky 74 points Expert Senior

Light & fruity, a good scotch but somewhat nondescript.

    Notes from 3/16/16:

Now this is a unique whisky. Fully matured in Chardonnay casks, not finished. In my opinion, Chardonnay is probably the only non-fortified wine that can hold up to the extra oxidation of being in a whisky cask without the whisky getting overly winey/sour.
    • Nose
Oaky and slightly winey. Nutty with some fruit but less so than the GM Classic.
    • Taste
Rich and weighty. Oxidized, buttery Chardonnay notes go well with the malt and oak. Well balanced. It has the body and weightiness of a sherried whisky.
    • Finish
Warming buttery vanilla oak. Long finish.

  7. Matt80 scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

Decent value with a good nose.
    • Nose
Quite a clean spirit, fresh, a touch of calvados. Fresh cut pear, some mint, some sugary sweetness, a little oak.

With water - sweeter with strong overtones of vanilla ice cream.
    • Taste
Pepper, spice, some oak, quite dry

With water - better balance, less drying and the spice has toned down
    • Finish
Medium, spicy, pepper, oak is more prominent.

      With water - medium/long, oakier

Toffee, Caramel, a bit grassy maybe, but a really nice fragrance.
    • Taste
      90 90
Soft as we are used to from Glen Moray, with fresh orange-like bubbles, but tasty.
    • Finish
      88 88
The finish is an extended taste, slightly dry, and medium-long.

  9. edelmeister scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

A great malt in its price range, which knows how to please despite the 40%. It's a shame that this whisky is no longer produced.

  10. anonymerlemur scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Very fine breakfast whisky. Butter cookies and peanuts dominate. Very solid.
    • Nose
Honey, somewhat fruity: grapes, very sweet.
    • Taste
A little bit acidic at first. But you can see a solid base of peanuts, peanut butter and butter cookies. Add honey.
    • Finish
Relatively long finish for this price range. Spicy, butter cookies and slightly bitter afterwards.

Joooooaaa nothing exciting, but delicious and tasty.
Would go along with Marko's Tastingnotes fully.
Overall, I liked it a lot, especially since I (for whatever reason) avoided this distillery. But this one has aroused interest.

What else is good of them?

  14. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Fruit, spice and sweetness in the nose. In the mouth then quite strong, spicy. Departure then bitter sweet with some wood notes. The white wine barrel is very discreet. No excitement, but a nice all-rounder.

  15. Totoro scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Not usually a fan of wine-cask maturation, I initially shuddered at the idea of an all-Chardonnay-matured GM. But when I finally opened a bottle I had bought as a free-shipping „filler“, I was pleasantly surprised: this really works! Bucketloads of sweet honey and vanilla. The (full ten) years of wine-cask maturation have not overpowered the nicely dusty, spicy-fruity Glen Moray distillate. Sure, the ABV is low and this is far from the „craft presentation“ we all duly obsess over, but I‘ll be damned if this is not sunshine in a glass, a perfect summer dram and an outright steal at ~25 €. A (literally) sweet whisky with a substantial finish. Did not expect this "cheapo" to be this good!

Solid drop, very good PLV. If you like fruity sweet whiskys, this is the place for you.
    • Nose
Extremely mild, dominant vanilla, fruity sweet. Apple & lemon.
    • Taste
Still mild, fruit in front of the vanilla. Present sweet, without being intrusive. Harmonious, but not particularly strong.
    • Finish
Short and not very intense, sweetie. A touch of barrel.

  21. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Quick to sniff, drink quickly and immediately nachkippen, then the super. But it's nothing to spend a lot of time with. But you do not have to expect that at the price ...
    • Nose
Sweet strawberries, blackberries, passion fruit, behind it comes through the alcohol, with time more and more similar to a Obstler
    • Taste
Obstler, very fruity but also directly young and the alcohol is weak, but easy to taste
    • Finish
Very short, but also very fruity

  22. markjedi1 scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

    Darn

This Glen Moray still enjoys an age statement, i.e. 10 years. It got a finish on Chardonnay wine casks. That particular grape can be found all over the world, but primarily in Burgundy, France. I was unable to find out how long said finish was, but I presume several months.

Oh, this nose is surpringly fruity with peach, apricots, fresh apples, ripe grapes, gooseberries, butternut and juicy pears. What a pleasant surprise. Hint of freshly sawn planks. Completely devoid of spices, though. Hint of vanilla and some… white wine.

The arrival is rather watery. It could do with a little more body. The grapes come first, then a slight metallic touch before the spices kick in. Think vanilla and a mild pepper. But unfortunately it is a lot less fruity than the nose promised. The apples return, but towards the end it turns somewhat dry. From the second sip on I even get a floral edge. Lavender? Violets? Darn, that is a pity.

The finish is, in all honesty, rather short.

It all started so promising on the nose, but it could not keep that promise on the palate. Just under 35 EUR, but then I would rather get the Port Cask Finish. Thanks, Pat!

Pleasant sweetness, light fruitiness and some spicy wood. Unfortunately, the finish is very short. For the price of around 30 €, this whisky is absolutely recommended!

A surprisingly fine and fresh dram. Is also very nice found by people who indicate not to love whisky, but are lovers of (chardonnay) wine. The character of that wine is apparently very good in the whisky. And for a relatively low amount a very serious drink.

A good drop. At a blind tasting, I thought he was 46% for a 12 year old whisky. That it is a Weisweinfinish I have realized that it is a standard bottling, I would have never suspected.
In his price range he is definitely one of the best for me.
    • Nose
Mandarin, apple, peach, slightly nutty, basil, grape, blood orange, some nutmeg and cinnamon
    • Taste
Mandarin, oak, carnation, tobacco, apple, grape, slightly sour, cinnamon, grapefruit
    • Finish
Medium long, spicy then it will be fruity

  27. LJBurns scored this whisky 85 points Member Junior

Without water, on the nose there is lots of cereal sweetness, some menthol/mint and a little light toffee. Like porridge topped with melted sugar.

The first taste is quite bitter, before all the cereal sweetness comes flushing through, finishing again on a slightly bitter vinous note.

There's an interesting dialectic between sweet cereal notes and slightly astringent wine-cask notes. I'm not getting much in the way of fruit.

The finish is longish, with a sweetened breakfast tea outro.

With water the nose is fresher and lighter. more mint and cut grass. Water brings out a touch of marmalade in the taste.

    • Nose

    • Taste
Full-bodied with notes of heavy white wine and liqueur as well as a subtle touch of resin
    • Finish
      long, dry and slightly bitter

  30. Greenkeeper scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

One of the bottlings, where one can not shake the feeling that they would be rated much better if they had been tested blind - or would they sold for twice the price - or would be 46% on the label.
Underrated - that's for sure. This is also indicated by the many good textual valuations with surprisingly few points in comparison.
I was surprised that only 40% did not bother. For me a clear sign of a good body and what you call a "rich". Because the "drown" not synonymous with stronger dilution. Very much whisky for very little money.
And if such a cheap bottling can be so good in relation to their price, you should come to many, many current bottlings difficult to ponder. Simple enjoyment, but still great drinking pleasure for very little money.

Only in the departure one notices that he is 10 years old, otherwise one can still call him benevolent as easy-going
    • Nose
fresh, young pears and light grapes, almost refreshing and sparkling, barely barrel, later almond and butter biscuit
    • Taste
unexpectedly a little hot, quite spicy but also watery
    • Finish
      rather short, a bit oak

  32. Goethe scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A lot of Chardonnay influence. Balanced but very thin concerning the finish. A very convenient whisky with an interesting cask-finish.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10
    • Nose
Chardonnay, citrus fruits, apples, coconut oil, grapes, cane sugar.
    • Taste
Caramel in the mix with Chardonnay, vanilla, some fruits, apples.
    • Finish
      Short. Smooth and gentle.

    • Finish
      Fairly dry, medium long, oak.

Nose: Buttery and malty with yeast, and fruit (peach and apricot) on top of dried coconut bits. You can almost sniff the buttery woody Chardonnay underneath.

Palate: Very creamy mouthfeel on this baby. Butter , vanilla and soft fruit enveloping every taste bud here. Spices and more vanilla with bits of caramel. Dough. Light and caressing.

Finish : Pepper. Vanilla. Very dry. Wood.

This is a gently creamy, buttery dram. Very nice IMHO. Not going to make you scream WOW, but it’s so nice and caressing, that I must say I’m quite the fan. For that price, it offers very good VFM. Can’t go wrong there at 20 or so quid. Good stuff. Not ground breaking, but very good session whisky, for a nice summer day.

Glen Moray 10 years, Chardonnay Cask, 40% alc. original bottling
    Aging: Chardonnay wine barrel
Region: Speyside, Scotland Nose: Fresh and fruity, apples, limes and pears. Sweetish, raspberries, grapes. Here, the barrel makes itself felt. This is followed by butter biscuits, cinnamon and sugar. Palate: Fruity, grapes and then slightly malty. Some bitter caramel, which is covered by the vanilla. Nuts follow behind, the malt becomes stronger and at the end slightly dry oak. Finish: Short and mild, very tasty, slightly silky. Conclusion: Pleasant and easy. The wine barrel brings additional flavors, unfortunately, these seem a bit set. 79/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 30 €)

Needs time and water in the glass. Then this 10 yo delivers. Be aware: It is fully matured in Chardonnay casks! It is not a chardonnay finish. For the price and age it is astounding.
    • Nose
W/o water - light, sourness of grapes, sweetness of apples. Chocolate hints. Hints of toasted oak.
With water - sweet of summer fruits - apples, apricote, slight pear. Toasted bread in the end.
    • Taste
W/o water - hesitating arrival of light sweetness of grapes and apples. Development from sweet dryness into winey sour.
With water - summer fruit arrival. Development of green apples, dry winey sourness on the tongue.
    • Finish
      Warn finish.

A nice dram in between, not too complex, but a pleasant nose.
    • Nose
White and some red grapes, ripe apples and lemon zest. Sweet caramel, malt and a pinch of cinnamon. Nuts in the background.

An interesting spicy whisky, since this 10-year old

whisky has fully matured in Chardonnay barrels.
A nice spicy edge, a hint of sweetness like butterscotch

and a light fruity aftertaste are present.

  44. Willie JJ scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

I first tried this as a cask sample and was very excited. Then when it was rleased at 40% I was very disappointed as a lot of the life and excitement seemed to be missing. However, this bottle has been open for a while and it has had a lot of air exposure and I'm finding a lot of the things that got me excited in the first place. This is good whisky and shows why this distillery should be taken seriously.
    • Nose
Crisp and clean. Redolent of the chardonnay and somewhat like a fino sherry. Fresh sawn, seasoned timber. Lots of green fruit.
    • Taste
hugely fruity and sweet like a summer fruit crumble. Just sipping it causes an explosion of flavours on the tongue. fruit salad and stewed apples now.
    • Finish
Nicely spiced with a little cardamom and pepper. The weight of the fruit carries it well. There's malt in there somewhere.
