Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1992 HSC

10 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.90 points

Complex Nevis. A repulsive start - swamp and sulfur. I recommend not to stick your nose out for the first 5-10 minutes. In the future, everything is at a high level - ripe apricots, honey and pepper. Unfortunately, the taste is a disharmony of sulfur, chocolate chips and apricot and this spoils the overall impression.

amazing nose, juicy body, you can have a great evening with such a whisky

an unusual start in the form of rotten walnuts and a farm. But then the profile is more recognizable, ripe exotic fruits, honey and vanilla. Toasted nuts, oranges, mangoes, dark chocolate, dry sherry, pollen
    • Taste
      89 89
Intense lemon, spices, mint, honey and fruits, seemingly simple, but very pleasant, absolutely no degree
    • Finish
      89 89
lemons with spices, a little wood, raw leather and spices

From the second approach I liked it more - sulfur is and does not interfere with the aroma and taste of mango, honey, spices. the finish is long with a sharp point, still felt the skin and notes of tobacco.

First of all: if you don't like sulfur, you should stay away from this bottling. But if you don't mind sulfur, you might find - like me - that the sulfur here harmonizes wonderfully with the typical Ben Nevis flavors and the relatively high alcohol content. That is what makes this Ben Nevis exceptional for me!

Constantly changing and new aromas on the nose, small taste explosions on the palate and a very pleasant and complex finish.
    • Nose

Typical Nevis herbs, clear sulfur, which goes very well with it and doesn't bother me at all.
Sweet, spicy, malt, chocolate, overripe plums, grated lemon peel, old wooden cupboard, furniture polish, raisins, nutmeg, menthol, ginger, pine needles, tree resin, cloves
    • Taste
      91 91
Sweet / sour, oily, pepper, slightly hot, milk chocolate, gingerbread, orange jam, old wood, dark dried fruits, peppermint, malt, a little ash, matched sulfur, herbs
    • Finish
      90 90
long, tart orange jam, tannins, unsweetened peppermint tea, light ash / smoke note

  6. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A kind of swamp whisky, a lot of sulfur, mineral and metallic notes, but very dense and rich, smooth with sweetness, interesting for tasting, of course I would not buy a whole bottle.
    • Nose
Open, raw, musty-herbal, mushrooms, nuts, damp boards, sulfur-metal and mineral notes, welding spray, refined leaves, vegetables - Margelan radish, cabbage, deep-frying oil.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, sweet-woody, strong sulfur-metallic notes, mushrooms, nuts, swamp water, lemon zest, hydrogen sulfide mineral water.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, wood-mineral, sweet with a strong sulfur-metallic flavor.

At 57.1 this is strong and honestly a bit rude too but also "funny". For serious drinker. It's perfect for winter nights.
    • Nose
On the fruity side. A very distinctive aroma of orange and tangerine. Oh and kiwi, yes. And a lot of liquorice aniseed. Winey notes lies down in the background.
    • Taste
On the palate is sweet, warm and powerful and maybe a bit harsh too. Alcohol in fact is quite present. Herbaceous, hay, tea.
    • Finish
Medium. Sherry is now more present. Aniseed is back again. A warm sensation which i really like.
