Nice introduction for me to Arran. Strength helps this one and can take a few drops of water without issue.

N- Mineral coastal characters, woody cocoa. Boiled pear and peaches,

P- Pickled onion, mouth watering. Powerful but non aggressive. White fruits jam, fragrant.

F- Medium and smooth, ginger, pepper with sweetened vinegar and juicy fruits.

Not specifically a success, the fresh fruit character disappears and sherry does not bring much.
    • Nose
A lot of wood, very bourbon. Sugar and spices.
    • Taste
Green fruits, sugar, liquorice. A bit fat. We go from the tarte tatin to the sour green apple.
    • Finish
Long, a little sweet, on wood, green fruits and bitterness.

A beautiful malt, that vastly improves if you add some water. A true
swimmer, the likes of Michael Phelps. Not even 40 EUR.
    • Nose
After the initial alcohol burn I get a nice mix of green apples, malt
and sultanas. A touch of salted farmers butter. A lot of vanilla. All kinds of
green herbs and a whiff of pepper. Adding water makes it a bit farmy. Pleasant.
    • Taste
The powerful attack leads to the aromas conversion into taste. White
fruit, pepper, vanilla. Cinnamon and cornflakes. Pinch of salt. But also orange
peel and pear drops. Zesty and mildy drying. With water, the apples come to the
fore, joined by honey. The fruit evolves into the dried variety.
    • Finish
The finish is very long and bittersweet, ending in a crumb of dark
      chocolate with pepper.

    • Nose
Full and intense aromas of dark chocolate with hints of burnt oak and baked apples
    • Taste
Soft citrus fruit with flavors of cinnamon, warm sherry, apple, ripe oranges with a nice oily, creamy texture that smoothly enters the mouth
    • Finish
Powerful and tasteful with a bittersweet taste of burnt sugar and dry oak

For Batch #1 of The Arran Malt 12 Years Old Cask Strength Master Distiller James MacTaggart has selected a combination of first-fill and second-fill sherry hogsheads which have been bottled at Natural Cask Strength. The influence of the Sherry Casks does not overpower the classic Arran characteristics but rather integrates with them perfectly to create a rich and powerful new edition of The Arran Malt. Whilst this whisky can be sampled at full strength we recommend a few drops of water to release the full range of aromas and flavours. Each Batch of the 12 Years Old Cask Strength will vary in terms of style and we trust you will enjoy savouring each new edition as and when they are released.

    Colour: Autumn Gold
Aroma: Full-bodied aroma of dark chocolate, toasted oak and baked apples
Palate: A warming sherry blanket at first but time and a splash of water reveal more subtle nuances of citrus fruits and cinnamon.
Finish: Powerful and spicy but still retains the finesse of classic Arran expressions.

This doesn't seem to develop for the better if you give it time.
    • Nose
First of: cereals, fresh yellow stone fruits (plus the stone), canned peach syrup, wet oak, vanilla & white chocolate, a bit of tobacco, (85)
A bit later: less cereal, fruitier and fresher, also with some bananas, sun flowers (?). (86)
Later: stewed apples, also a bit more austere, wet tobacco leaves now. (85)
    • Taste
quite a lot of oak & spices, but not bitter nor upfront woody, equal amount of fruit to balance it very nicely, alc is nicely integrated, (85)
feels a bit flat when going into the finish occasionally. (81)
Later: turns quite sour after a while, stewed unripe apples, vanilla, (83)
    • Finish
white chocolate, wood spices, fresh apricots, dried mango, even a touch of distant wood smoke at the end next to a very pleasant malt note. (85)
Later: pears, more malty, also with a slightly bitter prickle. (82)
