Lots going on; not all of it great but remains interesting through out – just don’t add water. Surprisingly not cloying; quite drying actually. My bet is, it was in virgin oak first and then a fairly short period in the port barrel

Astringent, cherry lozenges, brown sugar, new Adidas Superstar shoes out of the box (non-pretentious version; rubber and leather), a little musty a little mossy, slight vinegary note underneath it all. With water; gets too astringent and a bit soapy. Just say no to H2O.
    • Taste

Grapey, fuzzy, earthy, raspberries, herbal. Really weird transition right as it moves to the finish; feels like it splits into two. With water; a bit thin, a bit wood soupy and sweeter. Same as above; hold the H2O.

Surprisingly salty. Lots of wood spice, and a touch of dark chocolate. With water; menthol comes out

A quite spicy Benriach with a lot of port wood influences. I had bettter port wood finished before though.
    • Nose
My first impression is that it has a strong port wood influence. Very sweet. Quite clean with floral notes. Aslo polished oak and sandalwood.
    • Taste
Fruity, dry apricots and some melon. Quite astringent. Hazelnuts. Raisins but also juicy oak. Hints of strawberries.
    • Finish
Medium long. Dry and spicy (black pepper and nutmeg). Becomes very bitter later on.

This is perfectly quaffable without water and even becomes less interesting when you add some. So do not add water. Correctly priced at 90 EUR, but for that kind of money, I would rather pick up something else. The nose was very enticing, but on the palate it lost a bit of its charm.
    • Nose
The nose is very sweet, but that should not come as a surprise. Silky soft, too. Raisins on syrup, red wine and a pinch of candid sugar. Redcurrants, gooseberry, raspberry, coffee and Mon Cherie. A little waxy with a hint of smoke. This is just great. Adding water turns it a little sourish, making the wine stand out more.
    • Taste
The attack is feisty, but rather sour. The port wine clearly made its mark. Again hints of smoke, upholstered with coffee licqueur and cocoa. Water brings out the wine even more, but it never goes over the top. It stays within what I find acceptable for a wine finish. But the sweetness does get pushed in a corner somewhat.
    • Finish
The finish is medium in length and sweet, with a big fat bitter lining of the oak.
