Nose: Burnt wood and tobacco combine with fresh peaty sherry. Sweet, malty and powerful peat smoke. Wow, the nose lets you guess what taste experience will follow!
Taste: What a gigantic start. Very complex. Notes of iodine paired with huge peat smoke. Now sweet malt with hints of vanilla and fantastic sherry. Totally balanced !!!
With water: less smoky, but slightly malty.
Finish: Laaaang, very laaaang. A combination of smoke, medical notes and a huge dose of peat. Dry sherry flavors surrounded by oakwood notes. A straightforward, uncompromising departure that seems to have no end.
Rating: The madness! Thank you, Iain, for this ingenious peaty malt that was bottled just in time. If you love Lagavulin, you will spoil this whisky. Was the Lagavulin year in 1993? For me, the best that I could taste to date from this distillery. 97 points
