Freaky and horny, there is nothing more to say here, crass matter, the notes should make it clear.
    • Nose
Very freaky and interesting, pure noble salami on pumpernickel and for the whole first 10-15 minutes in the glass, with heat and air comes after time sometime also plum, raisins, cherry, red gummy bears, reminiscent of Burgundy Casks or Finishes at least, sweet licorice, dark butter, oiled leather, aloe vera, sweet ginger, dark toffee, flower meadow
    • Taste
Pure plum wine and cherry juice, cinnamon syrup, dark honey, berry jam, candied ginger, very sweet and mouth-filling, Demerarazucker, rum raisins, sweet licorice, rose water, it has something sparkling-dry such as carbon dioxide in the texture, bacon in honey mantle, cocoa powder, coffee beans
    • Finish
Very long, plum, peach, baked apple, sweet malt, dark honey, salami

Excellent 30 year old Glenugie. Balanced, in aroma, taste and aftertaste notes of dark chocolate, fruits (especially plums and cherries), nuts, citrus fruits. The aftertaste is long, at a certain moment, notes of cherry jam are sharply manifested. In my opinion, this whisky was bottled at the peak of its maturity.

This whisky was part of the lineup of a vintage tasting with my friends.
You do not get a whisky of a closed distillery in your glass every week. Whisky from the good old days when making whisky stood for artisanal rather than for mass production.
Very complex and "layered" with fruity and sherry notes from a excellent sherry cask. Flavors from nut, dark chocolate and raisins. I dared not add water as the outcome would be uncertain and I only had 2cl in the glass. It is just perfect as it is. Warm and stunning mouth feeling; Very long and pleasant finish. A perfect dram from the days long gone.

What a stunner of a dram this is! I’ve never had a Glenugie before. So I was very excited about it! Today we had a meeting with friends and one of us had the chance to get 10cl of it for our tasting. And man what a pleasure it was to have this in our glasses!
    • Nose
This is a classic and intense sherried single malt! Exceptionally well matured in a high quality cask that are hard to find these days! It bursts out in red fruits, spices, several nuts, coffee beans and very sophisticated sherried oak.
    • Taste
This cask must have carried high quality sherry for quite some time. The level of maturation this cask helped create is out of this world! The mouthfeel is so well! Creamy, soft, sweet and savory. Don’t add water to it, just give it time and warmth of the palm of your hand and it explodes on the nose and taste.
    • Finish
The finish is dazzling. Long length and a true delight. A lot of flavors are comming back and somehow get more and more intense. Hints of leather, Arabic spices and a delightful nuttiness.

Never had a Glenugie in my glass and today I was threaded with this release. This really has some lovely old style sherry aromas, created in a time when whisky making was allowed to take time. So taste wise I got sweet and juicy red fruits like strawberries and cherries, juicy melted caramel, loads of unsalted and unfried nuts, raisins and figs and some dashes of coffee. Stunner!

Nice sherry notes: prunes, raisins, sweet, hint of sweet spices like cinnemon. Oak is present in a nice way. Nice development (more of the oak presents itself with time).

    sample.

I have to deduct 2 points here, because the tannins made the taste slightly one dimensional. I liked the profile but it is slightly flawed.
    • Nose
Very much on dry wood/furniture at first. Some raisins and some kind of winey sirup in the background. Slightly resinous and some pine forest smell there. Nice note of dry parsley. It is a bit subdued but expressive enough. After a while sweeter notes emerge. Chocolate cake, fudge.
    • Taste
Nice even if slightly astringent arrival on liquorice and varnish. Hints of resin, dust and raisins. Somewhere in mid palate the tannins kick in persist all the way to the finish. Not really unpleasant but they kind of block everything else at this point.
    • Finish
Quite long, starting with liquorice, again some resinous taste. The after taste is long lasting and slightly dry with a hint of coffe/cappuccino.

[July, 2017]  I re-tasted this dram after a sulphury Benrinnes https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/12708/1982-tb tonight and it is dull, unbalanced and bitter.  This is another proof on how sulphury drams ruin your tastebuds - you just can drink more of these sulphury stuff (if you like it) as the nose and taste of all other drams get corrupted.  Besides its annoying scurfy taste this is another reason why I hate sulphur in whisky!!!  My tasting session has ended for tonight...

[July, 2017]  One of the very few official Glenugie bottlings and I am very curious about it.  Usually Glenugie produced high quality spirits but does Pernod Ricard still own excellent casks?

The colour is tawny and the texture shows slow legs and tears.  The nose offers an old school sherry profile with some slight cheesy aromas (that are not really annoying).  But it is shy when neat and certainly cries for water.  It arrives on the palate warming, not very much coating and a little adstringent from tannins. The taste is sweet and centered around sherry-induced flavours like nuts, raisins, chocolate with additional creamy toffee and wooden notes.  The finish is long, chocolatey and only a little bit drying (this time rather metallic).  Some water really opens up the whole dram - the nose releases a firework of additional aromas and the slightly cheesy notes are completely gone.  The mouthfeel is now smooth and mellow without any adringent or other distracting feelings anymore.  And both the taste and finish improve as well from additional flavours and a better balanced profile.  The only flaw is that the finish now gets more drying on papers and cardboardy moments.  Nevertheless this dram is a great swimmer, neat I score it 2-3 points lower...

A very delicious Glenugie when reduced with some (not too much!) water - but to be honest I had quite a lot of even better ones (...that just proves the high quality of Glenugie)!

Soooo nice and old school. Tasted blindly.
    • Nose
Delicious sherry notes combined with chocolate, strawberries, apples, rosemary and mint.
    • Taste
      Chocolate, (heavy) wood and nuts.
    • Finish
A bit over the edge: slightly bitter. Very dry, spicy, salty and malty.

I can imagine why some people would love this, it's full of strong flavours, an acquired taste shall we say, but not for me.
    • Nose
Beef gravy granules, liquorice root stick, a forest floor on a wet autumn afternoon, thick uncut brown bread and old wooden tables.
    • Taste
On first sip the thing that hits me the most was how bitter it was, almost like a dark real ale bitter. Quite woody on the palate with a splash of soy sauce .
    • Finish
The finish is long but very dry and bitter.

I love this and a perfect drinking strength.

    WITH WATER

Basically very smooth and reminds me of a well aged quality blend (very drinkable)
    • Nose
Tobacco , ripe plums, raisins and blackcurrant.

Toffee with new leather damp earth and balsamic.
    • Taste
Fizzy with a little woody bitterness mixed in with dark fruit and treacle toffee.

After a while it gets a little creamy and full bodied with hints of brandy and orange liqueur but those hints are in the background.

After a few more mouthfuls I get stewed sweet rhubarb with a little custard.
    • Finish
      Long, quite fruity and warming.

GLENUGIE 30yo 1980-2011 / 52.13% OB DEOCH an DORAS Sherry with fruit, rum raisin, overall thick scent Ripe fruit, moist cake with moist and drink, fruity sweetness is heavy and firm taste The body firmly retains its thickness while the long-lasting sweetness of sweetness of gorgeous Sherry and fruit Glitter egg with impressive taste that keeps the sweetness of fruits, with cornice in the moist, thick and moist This is also a closed distillery, valuable official bottle purchased by Master at Glen Rivet Distillery. I thought that there was an official bottle in the past, it seems that there is nothing to do if you ask the master ... This taste is wonderful as a single malt, is it unlucky to be forced to close down? http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/distilled1973/40471558.html

Glenugie 1981/2011 30yo OB, Deoch an Doras - Cask Strength, 70cl, 52.13% vol. I thought that I was upset and excited when I thought that it was not pleasing, Glenugie ! Distillery which there is such a magical enchantment so much is not quite else. Hue is this OK? What? It is as thick as. Do you think that the distillery style will be swallowed with a massive body? At Nosing, expectation with no gritty without any roughness. Well, I feel fruity and peach, but can I leave such a thing to Longmorn, Ben Riach? Even though I feel dried fruits, Yakushu, Deco Pon, it is truly Glenugie that I do not feel any hot summer! Due to the nuances of this dry fruit peel or grated apples, places where a slightly brighter darker weather is produced than Tomatin does not accumulate. Of course, aside from Glenugie 's apricot nuances, the duets with persimmon' s eggs and girls are thoroughly able to enjoy themselves in either 30 years or 2012! It is not easy except for Glenugie to do both sunshine, shade and yin. A finish with a long finish reminiscent of Ogawa with chestnuts while being enveloped in the scent of pine is a real masterpiece! I can hear even more loudly in my head. Glenugie! Glenugie! ! Glenugie! ! ! Glenugie! ! ! ! Glenugie! ! ! ! ! ..... × ∞! After all, Glenugie is Whisky of enchantment of enchantment, and Aqua Vitae does not understand. https://whisky2010.usukeba.com/u/whisky2010/1fyharsrxfhvzi

Glenugie 30 yo 1980/2011 'Deoch an Doras' (52.13%, OB, Chivas Brothers)  These ultra rare bottlings – there was also a 1977 - have gone almost unnoticed when they came out three years ago, at WF Towers included. Boooh! Come on, it was an official Glenugie, so the equivalent of a Brora or Port Ellen Special Release by Diageo! Let’s see what gives… Colour: amber. Nose: sadly, I don’t seem to find Glenugie’s proverbial intense fruitiness, rather a combination of oak spices with toasted brioche, and bark and walnut. Some beeswax too, a little wood smoke, a touch of mocha and a little damp earth/old musty cellar. Some rubbed mint leaves as well, and perhaps a drop of pinesap. Hasn’t the cask been a little too active? With water: oh, mandarins come out, together with some sweet ham. Ribs cooked in honey sauce or something. Mouth (neat): ah this has more Glenugieness, should such a thing have ever existed. Grapefruit compote or something like that, spicy mango chutney, touches of passion fruits… We’re nowhere near the legendary Sestantes, but we’re above other indie bottlings of late 1970s vintages in my opinion. The oak’s a tad too loud, though, and there’s quite a lot of pepper. With water: very good, jammy and citrusy. Some thick citrus liqueur with peppermint and pepper. Finish: long, rich, jammy and citrusy. Spiced citrons, perhaps. Comments: I think it’s natural that we would prefer ‘naked’ long gone malts, to stay close to the original spirits, but this works well. The cask(s) had just been a little too active – in my opinion. SGP:561 - 87 points.

This is the third official bottling: besides the two Deoch an Doras bottlings there also is a 5 years old OB (with varying labels).

  31. Drochaid scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Only the second official bottling of whisky from closed distillery Glenugie, following the previous 32 year entry with this 1980 vintage 30 year old. The distillery closed in 1983 and has since been demolished, and bottlings in general are quite rare.

moist raisin and fruitcake flavours followed by tangy orange marmalade and
