The nose of this 1972 Farclas reminds me of several outstanding undisclosed Speyside Regions from 1973. That can not be a coincidence. Unforunately, the palate misses the juicy 'ouch' factor to deserve an even higher rating.
    • Nose
Lots of beehives, pollen, paraffin, and honey for a start. Followed by tropical fruitiness of mango, papaya, and pineapple Some meadow flowers, and vanilla cake with icing. Polished oak in the background.
    • Taste
Now more on eucalyptus and pine wood. Roasted chestnuts. Quite some bitterness of grapefruit and blood oranges. Spices of aniseed and a little cinnamon as well. Hints of dark menthol chocolate later on. It's all a bit sharp. The palate doesn't meet the expectations of the gorgeous nose.
    • Finish
Medium long with hints of black pepper and a little clove. Drying oak at the end.

Indeed close to the undisclosed speysiders 73 that are known to be Glenfarclas - probably just not that mature like those but definitely hinting to this direction - very good!
    • Nose
      93 93
Plenty of tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, ripe banana, honeycomb, spices, pepper, hints of green fruits, green papaya, carambole - great!
    • Taste
      92 92
Oily, creamy, sirupy, little punchy, good sweetness, more tropical fruits, more pepper and spices, again hints of green fruits, leafy hints, ginger, honey, woody - very good!
    • Finish
      91 91
Long, warm, fruity, spicy, little more wood spice

Indeed reminiscent of the 73 speysiders, tropical notes with a bit of a malty waxy side, very drinkable

Very freaky Glenfarclas, definitely a thrilling barrel, but overall here too overrated for me, but he has too many edges and partly for me already almost false notes.
    • Nose
Popcorn, floss, crass sweet and light initially, the sweetness alternates with bittern notes afterwards, dark honey and toffee, behind it grasses, macadamia nut, chestnut, oak, dry pear
    • Taste
Pear, physalis, apricot, oak, chestnut, licorice in bitter, fennel, caraway, anise, apple seeds, light malt and honey
    • Finish
Dry, oak with a little honey, chestnut and the grasses return a little bit, medium long
