This Clynelish has a lot in common with the 12 Year Old from David Stirk
    that I tasted last summer.
    • Nose
The nose is very sharp. Pepper, apples, citrus, a touch of wax. Flints.
Not bad, but I am not yet impressed.
    • Taste
On the palate, it is very spicy (pepper and ginger). Apples again, with
citrus, soon followed by a salty twouch. Kind of crass and unpolished. Reminds
      me a bit of grappa.
    • Finish
The medium long finish is sweet, but very sharp.

Especially lemons. Malty, with a touch of heavy background, undoubtedly a bourbon barrel.

Nose: waxy lemony and a quite fresh. Green apple as in Granny Smith, and a slight cucumber note as well.

Palate: Cereal bowl with chocolate chips and lemon peel shreds. Malty and alcoholic. A bit metallic. Wee salt.

Finish : salted butter over burnt toast, with some lemon jam leftovers.

A very interesting dram, feels a bit young, and way to much lemon, if you like you whisky lemony, go ahead and get this one. it’s right up your alley.

A classic bourbon cask profile. Drinking it by itself I might have said it wasn’t the most Clynelishy Clynelish I’ve ever had but my notes from the tasting mark the clear through-lines we found between this one and the two older bourbon cask Clynelishes we had that night. Better then to say that this is not the profile the distillery aims for in their 14 yo. A good whisky for the summer: if not for the chalkiness and the hint of soap at the end I’d have this higher.

All good parameters in place but for some reason it does not really impress me
    • Nose
A light and thin nose of pears, peaches, apricots, a little vanilla, hay and herbs. Also a irritating sharpness from the alcohol
    • Taste
Comes into the mouth with a vanilla sweetness, then groing peppery tastes, then drying off a bit.
    • Finish
rather short finish softening out from peppery tones over to a fruity sweetness

Quite a sharp nose undiluted, masking any complexity. A fair few drops of water were required to release fruity tones (apples and citrus fruits) with faint vanilla in the background. Also harsh on the palate without water. I found it difficult to get a good dilution point to bring out the palate, with it quickly switching from harsh to simply flat. Medium length finish, once again with some rough edges.

This is a sweetie. A really nice cask of Clynelish.
    • Nose
Very mineral like cutting granite with a Stihlsaw. Plenty of fruit with peaches, pears, manarin oranges and a splash of lime. Hints of cedarwood too.
    • Taste
Very sweet vanilla delivery that is soft like custard with tinned peaches and a dusting of cinammon. Delicious.
    • Finish
Now the cinammon and other spices take over and linger for an incredibly long time.

  12. WhiskyNotes scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Young Clynelish that's behaving more like a lemon brandy.
    • Nose
A slightly austere Clynelish which starts on linseed oil, flints and wax, followed by light fruity notes (lemon skin, apple) and some flowery hints. A very mineral profile.
    • Taste
Sharp and pretty mineral again. Apples again and big zesty lemon (homemade limoncello without the sugar). Hints of tonic water. Grows more austere with grassy notes, ginger and salt. A tad too raw for my taste.
    • Finish
Medium long, clean, sharp and zesty.

    Color: pale gold

Nose(neat): clean, with fruits and notes of wax and very nice vanilla;(ww) same, but smoother.

Taste(neat): thick, oilyish and remarkable nice lemon and the vanilla!

With water: holy Moses: a fantastic taste - a perfect whisky, very smooth and rich, very drinkable!

    Finish: moderate long.

Comments: a lovely and complete Clynelish.

  14. magic_slim scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Very good typical young Clynelish.
    • Nose
Mellow and fruity with linseed and waxy notes is my first impression. Clean and fresh with green apples. Whiffs of orange blossoms are coming up and a little vanilla in the back. Pleasant.
    • Taste
Warming and rather spirity with mineralic, waxy, vanilla and linseed notes coming to the fore. Fresh and clean, fruity (oranges) and with additional pepper compared to the nose.
    • Finish
Medium long - remains pleasant and clean.
