Whisky reviews for Glenglassaugh 1976 SV

5 users have left 5 reviews for this whisky. Average rating is 89.74 points.

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A very nice and elegant Glenglassaugh with old-style fruitiness both in nose, palate, and finish. Those Glenglassaughs from the 1970s usually are a real treat. This one is not an exception.
    • Nose
Starts with a gentle, waxy fruitiness of mango, yellow prunes, and papaya. Did I mention Reine Claude as well? Followed by some floral notes of orange blossoms, roses, and rhododendrons. Hints of chamomile. Fresh herbs of rosemary and thyme in the background. Lovely!
    • Taste
Very creamy palate with hints of kumquat, kaki fruit, and pineapple. Peel zest and Galia melon slices. Later on plenty of bourbon cask characteristics of custard powder, creme brulee, and butterscotch. Honeycomb and a touch of milk chocolate as well.
    • Finish
Long, with spices of white pepper and cinnamon. A little sandalwood. Whiff of eucalyptus at the end. Perfectly balanced whisky.

Even though the nose is on the light side side, the palate and finish more than make up for this.
Although the average is 89 points I am going to make an exception to my usual rule and discount the nose beac50use i an deal with a not that good nose, if the palate is this good, so I am making my score to 91.
    • Nose
      84 84
The nose is not very expressive there is a dry grass note with a faint hint of lime ze5st,
Leaving it for a few minutes in air some icing sugar appears, faint parma violet and more grass/hay.
This is more like a grumbly old fragile grain whisky than a single malt
    • Taste
      93 93
The mouthfeel is creamy and chewy and the taste is lovely, a whole starburst of wine gum flavours, make no mistake.
Pineapple of the juiciest kind, yellow plum, lemon, a little mango and gala melon.
The sweetness of the fruit mixes with a sweet pepper not, it literally dances on your tongue, this is real quality
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish remains spicy, sweet and the balance stays, not the longest but certainly pleasant just fades a bit too quickly for it to be perfect.
