  1. DannyDram scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Pronounced sherry note from the beginning to the end. Good complexity, harmonious and on the verge of being fattened.

Milk chocolate, nutty, spicy, balsamic, polish, old sherry, raisins, figs. Balanced, moderate complexity, but intense

From that era when they knew how to make great liquid from just 10 years in the cask. Great sherry and perfect abv. Love these 100 proof GM.

  5. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

10 years old, huh? Who you trying to fool?

92.5 points. If this was at 40% or 43%, it would be a completely different whisky. Thank you, GM, for blessing us with this at 57%.

This is from a 50ml mini, flat, rectangular bottle, with the same label. To be added to wb (let's see).
    • Nose
A beautiful, warm sherry bouquet with this really earthy and gravelly, heavy roasted chestnut aroma. Aromatic. Also some milk chocolate and toffee.
    • Taste
Warming, and absolutely gorgeous. It's got some of that winey elements seen in great sherried whiskies, like the older Glendronachs and Glenfarclases. Again, there is this earthiness that adds some complexity. Maybe some mash potato. Ground coffee definitely. Drinks great at 57% -- smooth and with almost no burn. After adding water, one of my favorite flavors in sherried whisky come out -- soy sauce.
    • Finish
Nice and long. There is no off-flavors at all at the finish. A bit of brown sugar at the very end.

  6. ctu scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Very good antique flavors, but if it is a bit more complex, it would be really big whisky.
    • Nose
Very rich. Sherry, leather, caramel and forrest red berries
    • Taste
Bittersweet. A lot of sherry and robust spices, orange peel
    • Finish
      Long, bittersweet

  7. RL_whisky scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Superb, very nice sherried. Only thing I think is that it just lacks a tiny bit of complexity. An slightly more aged version of this would be astonishing I think.

    NEAT

    Nose
very rich, shoe polish, red currants, tangerine, wet leather, raspberry, cinnamon, there is some sherry but it is in the background.
If you leave it for while, the sherry becomes more pronounced on the nose and reminded me a little of the Glendronach 15 year revival (too sherried for me).
    I also get burnt toffee.

    Palate
Sherry is more pronounced now, rose water, coffee, orange, rich sherry.

    Finish
Long warmingWITH WATER ( maybe down to 50%-52%)

Nose - more of the same but more pronounced, toffee , caramel. orange

    Palate
Ah, there it is , unmistakable spicy Balblair. Rich fruit cake, toffee, hint of orange, flowers?. The sherry is tamed by the spiciness.

    Finish
    Very long, very satisfying.

An excellent whisky from one of my favourite distilleries.
    Pure quality.

  10. Malt Hans scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

Fruity sherry aroma, passion fruit, figs,

raisins, ripe orange, coffee beans, furniture polish, eucalyptus,

cloves, cinnamon, oak and juniper berries. Vanilla sweet taste, tannins,

walnuts, peppermint, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, red apples, almonds,

ripe banana, ripe grapefruit, orange marmelade, dark chocolate and pear.

Long, sweet, fruity and spicy end.
