  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

An immensely underrated expression. A very intense, full whisky despite its low strength.
    • Nose
An intense sweet smell with lots of honey. Beeswax even. Peach, pear, vanilla, grapes, figs, plums, appel syrup and tobacco.
    • Taste
A thick treacly, waxy honey sweetness. Furthermore pear, fig, plum, orange, vanilla and pepper. The low ABV doesn't harm in this one, it can actually take water and still stand strong.
    • Finish
Honey, pear, caramel, plums. A nuttiness with cocoa in the end.

  4. The_Osprey scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Aroma is light, estery and spiritous with apple peel and oak. Taste is subtle and supple, bourbon notes and fruity esters, light burnt apple, apple pie, creamy and easy. Tasty but very expensive for what it is.

  5. SteveGo scored this whisky 86 points Member Senior

Nose is great and very complex; a full fruit basket with light wood notes; Mouthfeel fits in, but overall too little characteristic for me. The finish briefly releases new, slightly tart aromas, but I can no longer find the complexity from the nose in the taste and finish. Solid whisky, but you get better for the price

The nose is not striking, spicy aroma. On the palate notes of coffee and chocolate and dried fruit. Final with annoying note of sulfur. Not unforgettable.

[August, 2010] Together with friends I emptied bottle no. B17625 that I bought for 69 Euro in July, 2010.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. My notes state a very quaffable fruity profile without flaws.

  17. maltaholic scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A very nice malt, which has its own, flowery character.
    • Nose
The smell is extraordinary, very mild, sweet, you have the honeycombs in the mind's eye.
    • Taste
For 40% very strong, full-bodied, hard to define flavors, somehow you have a meadow in the mouth, very aromatic, now softer, not stinging.

Quite light in style ...and body. With complex herbal notes, hints of sweet spices and subtle honey. The understated, long-term maturation made the distillery character stand out.
Very relaxing dram but needs time to be evaluated fairly.2015.05.

had been saving this one and tried it after a Glenlivet 18 but found this uninvolving compared to the Glenlivet.
I found it thin on the palate with a short finish. It should have been bottled at maybe 45% + as i found it a little weak. Thats the gripes out the way but on the positive side i found it very easy to drink (too easy) and liked the taste. I would drink this if i fancied a good session but thats probably because it is not particularly complex and would savoir the taste of a better malt(depending on what you like) therefore it would last me longer etc
This would be an excellent malt for someone new to Scotch Whisky to try due to its sweetness and smoothness.
As i finish writing this i have had another glass and i am liking it much more now (neat).
All things considered i would still recommend this.
After finishing the bottle my assessment would be easy drinking, enjoyable malt.
    • Nose

      Honey, sweet smoke, christmas cake.

Nose: light, tropical fruit. Honey, fruit syrup, fig confectionery. Pineapple dragonfruit. So enough sweetness.

Initial taste: Light sweet, hint of sour sweets. Nice and rounded honey sweetness. Some flowers and the tropical fruits come by.

    Body: medium, a little oily

Finish: medium the tropical sweetness keeps on going, but not much development after all.

Price: a steal for a whisky like this.

Presentation: well done, not much info given away, which is a good thing

Comments: Surprisingly a lot in common with Glenlivet 12yo! Yet for the price a steal and must have!

sweet, tasty easy-to-drink beginner or party giraffe party for people with a slightly thicker wallet ;-)
    • Nose
      "Whisky" ;-)
So inconspicuous, pleasant, but not spectacular: sweet (honey, vanilla), slightly mild spice (slight hint of hay / herbs), cereals, maybe a very small idea fresh fruitiness
    • Taste
mild, soft, sweet, tasty, malt, caramel, very light roasted aromas, almost none of the expected bitterness at 21Y - goes down like oil
    • Finish
slightly sweet and spicy ... and that's it!

Very nice light whisky. Could have used a slightly higher abv in my opinion. Taking price into consideration, it's fantastic.

I sometimes use this as the first whisky in a line-up for a high end tasting, which seems to work really good.

One word: underwhelming. (And my expectations weren't too high to start with.)
    • Nose
A bit of hey, some distant flowers on a summer meadow something fruity, a cross between strawberry and pears - sound more than there is. More malt and less old wood than one would expect.
    • Taste
Some drops of fruit and spice dissolved in too much water. Neither sweet nor too bitter. Might have felt smooth and balanced if it was an eight year old, but expectations  after 21 yeas are more mature.
    • Finish
Some bitterness, finally a sign of the states age? One might find some spicy herbs, but before a clearer idea can form it is gone.

Nose: sweet red apple (with waxed skin), slightly bitter spiciness, vanilla, malt, pineapple
Taste: slightly watery (he could have tolerated more turns), bitter chocolate, toasted almonds, apple, aromatic solvents
    Finish: Eichig, applesauce, caramel

    • Nose
I cannot discern immediatley something that jumps out.  Flowers, some fruity notes too.  It has a sweet smell.  Actually quite nice.  The second time it was better.  Not bad, but too light.
    • Taste
Pretty much the same.  With some water I tasted more sweet fruit, the flowers come back but there is also something bitter that appears at the very end.  It feels like I'm drinking a blend.
    • Finish
What finish?  Very short with a touch of spiciness and again that little bitterness.  Really a shame because the flavour (with water) was quite OK.

Too bad this was bottled at 40%. A little more and this could’ve been a
real benchmark highlander. It is still very enjoyable though, even, or
simply because it’s undemanding character. At 70€, this is also one of
the cheapest 21 year old OBs.
    • Nose
Expressively flora and tropical. Bananas, mangos, pineapple, oranges,
apples … a fruit basket! Not too sweet either. The oak remains in the
      background.
    • Taste
Full and sweet. Honey and loads of caramel. Never had such an explicit
caramel note before. The oak is speaking a little louder now too. Minor
menthol and coffee, yet bitterness is nowhere to be found.
    • Finish
Medium. Sickly sweet, with more caramel and sugar-glazed oak.

    • Finish
Light and dry. Honey and heather. Oak.

    • Taste
Creamy mouthfeel with an abundance of sweet fruit, slightly tingling on the tongue, vanilla, cruesli, then herbs and a nice 'oakiness'
    • Finish
Pretty short aftertaste with a particular emphasis on vanilla, herbs and wood

    Recommended!
    • Nose
The aromatic note reminds me of a younger Highland Park, with the slightly peat, which is hardly noticeable as peat. I also find sweet honey, notes of burnt wood, hints of vanilla, caramel and very ripe oranges
    • Taste
Really sweet, Oak but not many tannins, caramel and forest honey, liquer-like character, some milk chocolate, eucalyptus and a bit cinnamon
    • Finish
Medium with a honey sweetness. Some notes of oak. For 21 years very little bitter substances.
