    • Nose
      First of: Mineral (granite & sandstone), surprisingly savoury/meaty. Then sweeter malt notes right behind, also white chocolate, both taking over after a bit. (85)
      A bit later: much more sweet & fruity notes, among them -  (cooked/mashed) apples, oranges, apricots  & multi vitamin drops, some bright-ish wood & mint, a touch of pine resin, also something plant-y (goarse ?), still something meaty now behind the sweetness and a touch of sour/ness comes through as well. (89)
      Later (>45mins): fruityness seems to die down rather quickly on the nose. More vanilla, malt & spicy wood notes now. (87)
    • Taste
      quircky & interesting prickly-ness notdue to the alcohol but a mixture of upfront woodyness & sour-sweet notes. Then quickly after - fruit, oily, mint, a touch of honey & toasted cereal. (88)
    • Finish
      great balance of wood, vanilla & malt, with a bit of white chocolate & tobacco notes. At the very end green grapes in the dying tail...? (90)
      Later, turns more chocolaty & on fresh fruit. Less balanced in a way, but more enjoyable/yummy for me (90)

    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

    1 of only 269 bottles from cask no. 2836
    Tamdhu was mothballed in 2010 by the then owners, Edrington. However, it has recently been purchased by Ian MacLeod Distillers and we hope to see the stills firing again before too long. This elderly example is bright gold, with orange lights. A moderate bead, with cremant bubbles settling. A sweet, fruity nose (bruised apples, cherries – even Cherry Heering liqueur), with some malt to start yielding to pear drops; layered and changing. A silky texture and a sweet taste, with some fruit; drying in the finish.  Water introduces an attractive waxy note and alters the nature of the fruitiness, but flattens the aroma. The taste at reduced strength is not so sweet, with light chocolate in the aftertaste. Better enjoyed at natural strength.
