Beautiful, squeaky clean oldschool sherry board. He does not need water. Did I in the first attempt (embedded in a Tastingabend with some highlights) actually seen weaker than the 58.10 ... so you can be wrong, today he beats him by far.
    • Nose
      92 92
clean, sweet and sour sherry, Amarena cherries, lovage, soy sauce, freshly baked buttery croissants, fully ripe apricots ... with water the aromas remain almost unchanged, only slightly thinner overall, honey is added
    • Taste
      89 89
sweet and full, of course wood but without any bitterness, sugar candy, cherry, ginger ... hardly any change with water
    • Finish
      91 91
Barely perceptible tannins, clean and rich sherry finish, icing sugar ... with water significantly shorter

SMWS Tasting Notes: The sample, from the oldest distillery in Speyside, is mahogany in colour from a sherry hogshead. The oak has left its mark - polished furniture, tea, spice - yet it remains sugary. The neat nose has sweetness (honey, toffee, caramel, tarty ???, brown sugar) balanced by fruit (orange, pears, prunes, raisins, dates and sultana loaf) with a sniff of smoke and some rum notes. The palate is dry, sweet and spicy with pepper, burnt sugar, marmalade and cola. With water, the nose finds a tingle of tar which eventually turns to buttery toffee while the palate remains sweet and fruity. An outstanding dram.

Into the wing chair - sniff and suck for hours, happiness guaranteed - an old-style sherry dream
    • Nose
Furniture polish, floor wax, old leather, grape must, sherry, shoe polish, warming Christmas spices such as star anise, cardamom and cinnamon, coffee marc
    • Taste
old wardrobe, newly treated with polish, cranberries, sherry and sweet pipe tobacco, black currants, sweetened elderberry juice, woody notes reserved for advanced age
    • Finish
      long and sherry sweet

  7. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Powerful Strathisla, not the usual flowery notes, but juicy and sappy oak. Very very good.
    • Nose
Lots of polished oak. Old furniture. Ripe apples. Oranges as well. Hints of burnt wood. Whiff of smoke. Sulphur at the background and some rubber. Quite complex, develops through time.
    • Taste
Silky mouth texture. Apple and pear. Dried fruits of figs and dates.  Some raisins  Sappy oak. Hints of sherry. Lots of depth
    • Finish
Long and warming. Cinnamon. Totally in balance.
