    - a good, uncomplicated and tasty single malt
    - a little flat at the end, maybe a little one-dimensional, but
    quite pleasant to drink
    - originally about 40.00 € was really OK
    • Nose
soft sweet sherry aroma, old grapes, floral, raisins
    • Taste
very soft start and soft development of sherry, honey, mild sweetness, light chocolate note
    • Finish
      short, soft finish ;
      medium-long sweet aftertaste

Nice, but a little too weak and reserved. More should come.
    • Nose
Apple pie under a chestnut tree, the shortcrust pastry becomes more and more intense and floury, with a delicate bitterness of milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Fruity, yellow apples and wild mirabelle plums.
    • Finish
Gentle and also a bit fruity.

    Notes from 4/28/15:

Well-rounded and approachable but nothing to write home to mom about. As a step up from the entry level Classic I feel this one is a bit disappointing.
    • Nose
      79 79
Honeyed with some kind of wild honey. Woodsy spice. Lacks in strength some.
    • Taste
      76 76
Again seems weaker - too dilute at 40%? Same flavors as the nose.
    • Finish
      76 76
Finish carries the tune. Has the extra few years taken away the charm of the Classic?

Nice whisky, but for 16 years old pretty poor. It may appeal to people who like airy and tender mols. It would be interesting at full strength, since even at the minimum it shows a very oily and tender body.
    • Nose
      82 82
Very soft, almost elusive, open, not complex. Basket of yellow fruits: yellow apples, yellow pears, pineapples, a little vanilla, nuances of chocolate, marzipan and skin, pancakes with honey.
    • Taste
      82 82
Here it is very interesting: decently oily for its strength, but at the same time very airy and almost imperceptible, soft, with a slight bitterness. Yellow apples, honey, pears, some chocolate, sweet spices and marzipan, hardly noticeable off-notes of wet cardboard.
    • Finish
      82 82
Slightly tart, flat, but rather slowly fading. Wet wood, vanilla, malt, nuances of baking, bread, milk chocolate.

    • Nose
Emphasizes malty and nutty with buttery pancakes made from buckwheat flour, tender oak, hay and caramelized cooking apples. Gradually follow a trail of summer honey, floral accents and a slight earthiness. Overall, of course, wonderful with a nice balancing act of salty, nusseigen and floral aromas.
    • Taste
First oily-nutty aromas, a lot of robust malt, oak, hay, apples and slightly buttery as well as roasted aromas. Reminiscent of an apple pie like grandma's.
    • Finish
Long, warm and malty. It gets rustier and nuttier over time.

    A simple, pleasant, good Speyside malt;
    • Nose
      first much malt, then sweetness, fruits / dried fruits, spices;
    • Taste
      full-bodied onset, sweetness, malt, chocolate, spices, oily, creamy, caressing, tasty, uncomplicated;
    • Finish
      medium length finish, malty sweet finish;

N: rich, fruity (dried fruit/yellow fruit), mild, matured, estery, floral
P: light sparkling, sweet, tablet, gentle, slightly bitter, slichtly drying
F: warming, oak, wood-spices with some fruityness, medium to long
C: A lovely whisky, not very exciting but very nice as your daily dram. This version was a start of their new wood policy, Ed Dodson former manager at Glen Moray explained me all about it back in 2004.

  17. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

A good Speysider that shows his age but also has her or other weaknesses. Otherwise easy drinking.
    • Nose
Fruity, oak, vanilla, spice, leather, but also some hairspray and alcohol.
    • Taste
Tingling and strong for 40%. In the mouth neat oak, liquorice and a few malty notes.
    • Finish
Tart, dry, nutty, some sherry and oak. Pretty long, pleasant and somehow fresh.

  18. Dr.Nose scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Very sweet and fruity, such as light raisins scents in combination with vanilla. The taste is somewhat sharp with spicy notes. In the short aftertaste some bitterness, but also some spiciness. All in all a pleasant surprise!

    Nose:
Mild, not reallly active casks if you ask me. Some raisins, but the spirit influence is quite clear. Quite some freshly cutted wood, marzipan and a hint of citrus. There are also some bourboncask influences in the background. Some vanilla and honey.

    Taste:
Sweet, slightly bitter. Some raisins, apricot, bitter-orange-marmelade . Little wood. But overall sweet.

    Body:
    Medium

    Finish:
Medium length. Also a bit tannic. But in general a little wood, some raisins, oranges and hint of vanilla and fudge.

    Price:
    Rather a steal.

    Presentation:
    Nice can!

    Comments:
It is rather cheap. It is decent whisky, but don't expect a ringer!

    • Nose
Raisins, wine-like, rosé, citrus, honey, some sweet, caramel
    • Taste
Honey, soft, somewhat thinner, caramel, nuts, raisins
    • Finish
Medium, sweet, honey, very light peppers

  23. vojt466 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

To her age, a rather inexpensive classical, not surprising. In taste it balances slightly on the edge of bitterness, but fortunately it only balances and on its age it froze a little faint reverberation. Overall, it's actually such a simple, smooth (and pleasant) drink that is quite average in some ways.

  24. Ketty scored this whisky 83 points Member Junior

Unfortunately, this bottling has a little too little of everything that makes up a good, classic Speysider, due to the 40% of everything. With 43% or 46% he would certainly have had more friends.
Nevertheless: extremely tasty and delicious. I consider it one of the most underrated standards in the market for a (still) very fair PLV.

N: Pancake grain nose as expected with a fluffy, honey sweetness
T: True delivery of sweet grain with a healthy spirit/oak ratio - skilfully blended, also as expected. Turning fresh and peppery towards the end - true to form from this speyside giant
F: Fresh bourbon notes, classic Spey performance
C: No surprises here - classic well 'vatted' 16yo malt which must have improved recently after reading all the past negative reviews.

  37. rottendon scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Simple but pleasantly tasty, looks a little younger than 16 years.
    • Nose
First a puff of pale fruits, more pear than apple, but it quickly vanishes. Then a very dominant vanilla note, next to a few dried fruit can be heard. Mainly raisins, some apricots. Malt is also present. When heated, there is a bitter herbal note. After the first sip there is a new aroma: white chocolate standing alone.
    • Taste
Pleasantly sweet and sour with honey. No fruit, but oak. Somewhat nutty.
    • Finish
A rather short finish in which the sweetness predominates. A little bit tannins also occupy the oral cavity.

Glen Moray 16 years, 40% alc. original bottling
    Extension: Bourbon barrels
Region: Speyside, Scotland Nose: Malty and robust with strong fruit aromas, these are more reminiscent of sweet dried fruits (apricots, dates). There are herbs, eucalyptus. This first impression is rounded off by sweetish vanilla and a light wood note. Palate: Sweetish but less fruit. For malt sugar and toffee, some caramel and mint. The light wood tones of the nose are also back, paired with slightly earthy aromas and spices. Finish: Long, slightly bitter caramel, oak and dried fruit. Again with a lot of malt. Conclusion: "Old Style" is probably quite good. A standard whisky off the beaten track. 81/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 40 €)
I thank the whisky house for the photo!

No bad malt, super PLV and a nice all day dram 3+
    • Nose
Fresh, spicy, lots of vanilla. Some dark fruits and some nutmeg.
    • Taste
At first very soft and light. Almost a bit watery. After some time, some vanilla comes through, which turns with a little spice to a great sherry note.
    • Finish
The sherry note stays on your tongue for some time and after a while, the spice takes over again.

At first I thought I could feel a hint of smoke. Full and intense in the nose. Ripe, light fruits (pear and apricot), forest honey and milk chocolate. Some damp leather, spices and oak.
    • Taste
Heavy and oily, sweet and fruity. Right behind it are spices, caramel, vanilla, leather and oak.

Dried fruit, chocolate and malt sugar.

    The color is deep gold.

In the nose, rich and ripe tones of robust character. Dried fruit such as figs and raisins, mixed with chocolate and spices. A slight hint of leather and linseed oil to give an overall impression of warmth and depth. With some water come malt sugars up with something of mint and smoked oak. Even now some smokiness detectable. The taste is sweet, full and exceptionally round, soft with a firm body. Subtly oily, and a lovely mouth filling chewable oak tannins. First some toffee, then some mint and malt sugar followed by smoke and peat flavors. The finish is long, deep and sweet

  47. granella2003 scored this whisky 71 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
A rich and mature nose with a robust character. It is reminiscent of dried fruit, perhaps figs and raisins, mixed with chocolate and spices (cloves and boiling sweets). There is a hint of leather and linseed oil giving an overall impression of warmth and depth of character.
With water, barley sugar emerges with mint humbugs and a hint of oak smoke. A whiff of peat is now noticeable.
    • Taste
Sweet, full and exceptionally well-rounded, the taste is smooth with a good firm body, meeting the expectations set from the rich, mature nose. The texture is gently oily and mouth-coating with chewy oak tannins. The flavour is initially of toffee, progressing to mint humbugs and barley sugar and followed by a hint of smoke and peat flavours
    • Finish
Medium to long finish with a flavour and texture reminiscent of barley sugar
