Bowmore by Duncan Taylor from the 80's are mine
the lovliest. Sweet, vanilla, salty - mineral,
yellow fruity, some honey, citrus aromas, flowery
(Violet, lavender) metallic - mineral like a
Steam boiler and peppery. Anything a good Bowmore
needs. A little too much oak influence for me.
Fortunately it was an ex-bourbon barrel. A few years
less maturation would be better in my opinion
    been.

    nose
Soft, creamy, and very sweet. Just a bit of smoke, but a sweet and actually not peaty smoke. Spare ribs glazed with honey, served with glazed apples from the charcoal grill. Some citrus, some oak, light vanilla and powdered sugar. A little sugar candy, something like "Fizzers" so slightly sour, tickling but full of sugar.

    taste
still very soft and round, but with enough strength to fill the mouth according to age. Immediately go back to the honey-glazed spare ribs and the fizzers. Sweet and smoky, a bit sour like lemon and apples. Again some oak and the accompanying vanilla, subtly tart but immediately disappearing into the sweetness. Fruit salad and a slightly oily mouthfeel set in. I don't know if this is the "soap" that many don't like about the 80s Bowmores? I think it's great!

    Exit
Long, creamy, oily, and still dominated by the Fizzers. Slight pepper on the edge of the tongue, citrus, fear salad and just a little bit of smoke hidden.

    Conclusion
For me an old Bowmore as it should be, simply super tasty and with a great sweet smoke that fits well into the overall picture. This is how an old Bowmore should taste to me. If the 80s are all like that I would have to buy more of them if nobody else likes them :-D
