I have had an 18 year and 22 year 1970 signatory Glendronach with a mix of some of the same casks used here. All 3 of them are far better than the 35 year plus OB by some margin and confirms to me that 18-22 years is most definitely the sweet spot for Glendronach, get some you will not be disappointed, leave the old stuff alone and look for some of these youthful middle aged 70`s signatory bottles instead.

Fruity, dark berry sherry cask pretty much sums this up on the nose.

Milk chocolate, mocha, mahogany wood, a little peat and faint hints of sweet smoke.
I no longer can get excited about heavy sherried whisky, the nose is a good one if you like this sort of thing.
      edit
The longer you leave it in the glass, the better it gets untill is just about perfect.

Very rich, almost too rich for me but this has enough restrained power at 43% and that is a quality I look for. This is lip smacking to say the least.
Gets more chewy as the dark and forest fruits arrive and dance on your tongue, perfectly weighted, nothing out of place here.
There is a trace of peat but it is buried underneath the sweet sherry but and this is a big plus for me the distillery character is coming through by the bucketful, excellent.
The palate is almost at 94 points

Long, sweet and some spices coming in the tail, like mulled wine spice but not as strong.

    Colour:
    Amontilado sherry
    Nose:
Wow, what a nose! Ultra spicy and pungent salty-spicy ... and that at 43%! The finest red fruits with filigree, dry wood, nuts, mocha, honey, tobacco, smoke and always very fruity sounds in between. Creamy thick, yes waxy with leather and some furniture polish - absolutely dominant here is the red fruit - class!
    Taste:
Creamy, fruity, spicy and very fat. Salty, peppery with old sherry and a basket full of herbs provided. In addition honey, a lot of wood, nuts, leather, smoke, furniture polish, floor wax and ever-drier wood notes, which remain fruity despite all - very beautiful!
    Finish:
Medium length - woody, fruity sweet with raisins, dried red fruits, fruit tea, smoke, furniture polish, some tobacco and a slightly fresh herbal undertone ending.

[April, 2008]  I had this dram during a MaRa rarities tasting at Limburg.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  Unfortunately my detailed notes were lost.
