    • Finish
      wood, dusty mandarin peel, wax

I have previously had an 18yo Lochside (WB20744) which was a bit disappointing. I like this one a lot better because it's a lot fruitier and more intense, even though both only had 43 percent.

If you don't go here with the expectation of a Lost distillery and ignore the price, then this is a nice, clean, light and fruity-harmonious whisky with a not too clumsy aroma profile.

      88.5
The first nose is very fruity with lots of barley sugar. This one also has very, very light aromas of herbs and dry grass in the background. Otherwise, this is a rather simple but very nice profile. Very clean and harmonious, no missing notes. Slightly mineral notes at the back.
    • Taste
      87 87
The palate starts surprisingly thin and is aromatically very one-dimensional. Here, too, fruity-mineral aromas, otherwise not much apart from barley sugar and fruit sweetness.
    • Finish
      88 88
The mouthfeel is too thin, but gets nice mineral and tingling at the end. The finish is not particularly intense, but still medium-long. Better than the palate.

    Balance (22)
Bourbon aging, aged 25 years.43% (90) I will not say about the smokehouse, but the molt was light and took a lot of bourbon.
    Blind tasting
    • Nose
Honey, chocolate, pastries. Fruits with salty, butter. A little bananas, dogs and plums… some noble pickles (23)
    • Taste
The taste is rich bourbon, oily body, round (22.5)
    • Finish
Fruit finish with herbal notes, lemon zest, chocolate wrappers and wood (22.5)

    10/14/2021:
Nice light style of whisky, plays with nuances, quite consistent and drinkable. I really liked it.
    • Nose

Fresh, herbal, light, perfume, candied fruit, lemon and / or orange peel, light malt, cereals, green apricot, vanilla, oak, dried herbs, honey, there is an OVE effect.
    • Taste
      87 87
      Sweet fruit, herbal, matches.
    • Finish
      87 87
Warm, long, candy sweetness, grassy, metal shavings, matches.

[December, 2021] I found this dram in this year's advents calendar...

...and this is a typical late Lochside, meaning there is nothing special about it. While there are many excellent old Lochside bottlings from the sixties the late eighties/nineties vintages are about all to forget, usually. Stuff for collectors, only.
    • Nose
      86 86
The colour is pale gold and the nose offers an old-style blending malt's profile with mainly grassy and barley-sugary notes complemented by some shy homegrown fruits and autumn floral impressions. No flaws or off-notes but nothing of interest to my olfactory cells too.
    • Taste
      85 85
The tannins are louder on the palate and drive the profile somewhat out of balance. The fruits are stronger too but they can not compensate the wooden attack, so the taste turns quickly to the bitter side. I guess this was a rather leached cask.
    • Finish
      83 83
The dram arrives warming and with a minor coating effect on my palate but there are some bitter-drying moments too (tannins). The finish is rather short and adds no new impressions but a slightly bitter-astringent finish. Water is not needed, it just flattens the dram.

I tried it in the blind, the birthday man Kostya tortured everyone!)

my verdict: Highland, not sure, but let it be Brora, refill bourbon hogsheads, batch from GM botler, up to 20 years old, 43-46%. Deliciously entered, and beautiful! 22 22 21 22 87.

Lochside distillery has been closed for some time now what is on the market is becoming increasingly rare.
    • Nose
      Sweet with roasted malt.
    • Taste
Heavy sweetness, spicy and malt influences.
    • Finish
      Medium dry.

Color: pale gold Nose: even more restrained than the 15y, cereals, malt, later citrus notes Body: medium Mouth: Mild, sweet notes, cereals, some vanilla, grasses, pepper Finish: medium, caramel and bitter oak notes, some citrus Conclusion: 77.5P, Old School Whisky, unfortunately somewhat one-dimensional

  12. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

goes in the same direction as the 2007, but more mature and fuller. I like it. I also had the 1991-2010 of G & M, which was of course quite similar.
    • Nose
similar to the 2007er, but almost a little more fruity, "younger", less peat smoke, but more herbaceous notes, maybe a little anise again, plus citrus. Over time he opens up and gets really strong and full, almost a little vanilla and sweetness. Nice nose.
    • Taste
nice and strong, fruit, vanilla, tart oak and a bit of smoke.
    • Finish
a lot of bitter oak, which unfortunately pushes the other flavors somewhat into the background. Light smoke remains, in addition a certain fruitiness and after some time also a slight sweetness.

    • Nose
      Citrus fruit, sweet, lemon
    • Taste
Citrus, pineapple, lots of different fruits
    • Finish
      a little pepper, slightly bitter

Cross comparison with Lochside 1991 G&M bottled in 2008. The profile of both versions whiskies is very similar. It seems to me that the 2001 version is slightly more fruity and less spicy.
    • Nose
Grassy and malty. Green apples and floral notes of hay and Heather. Some wet grass as well.
    • Taste
Sweet frui't; lemon and papaya. Oakiness with a spicy edge. Malty juiciness. Roasted almonds.
    • Finish
      Medium long. Mint. Bitter-sweet dryness.
