A novelty bottle with a fun label. Lacks complexity and flavor to me. This would certainly benefit from a few more years in the barrel. I don’t really get any of the corn notes that some people pick up in their reviews but I can definitely see why this is labeled as “Mellow”.
    • Nose
Vanilla and caramel. There is definitely a dusty component to it, like breathing in dust covered blinds. Not aggressive, simple and straightforward.⁣
    • Taste
A bit hot initially. Definitely sweet. Vanilla, simple syrup, slightly creamy, a tad salty, a little cinnamon spice.
    • Finish
Short. Alcohol forward. Fading sweetness intermixed with alcohol burn and a mild bitter note at the very end.⁣

    Sharp, not my thing.
Nose is not wrong, taste too sharp.

  6. Minhawali scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

It's different, maybe a good mixer but I didn't like it.

  7. Dreambear scored this whisky 85 points Newbie

Excellent whiskey! I normally prefer scotch single malt, but this was a pleasant surprise. A real desert whiskey. Despite 50% alcohol, no water is needed.

Mellow corn is my dirty secret. It is cheap and cheerful and works best over ice. I wouldn't say it was the greatest American whiskey, but it is certainly good value for money.

This is a excellent value and a very unique whiskey.
    • Nose
Vanilla, dried banana, sweet corn, and honey.
    • Taste
Ginger and warm spice vanilla and banana. Moderate warmth and sweet corn.
    • Finish
Long finish with vanilla and white pepper.

From the Heaven Hill distillery, the only major producer of corn whiskey in the US. A full (corn) yellow label, large red letters and a neutral bottle shape in connection with the rich yellow fire - makes me want more. The simplicity of this drink is underlined by the use of a plastic screw cap. Honestly, certainly not a sophisticated drink, but I like it. Definitely also good for mixing.
    • Nose
Entrance slightly pungent, but who wonders at 50% vol. Slightly bubbly, then the aroma of sweet corn is garnished with creamy vanilla cream. Water does not sting your nose any more, but the fuel stays. The slightly spicy corn tones are accompanied by finely nuanced notes of cabbage.
    • Taste
Start slightly oily and a little bit bitter before the alcohol gets to grasp the oral cavity and you heat up properly with the support of corn and dry vanilla. Water makes this corn whiskey initially open, maybe even too open. Then the corn rushes up and brings a light acid along the edge. Finally, a peppery, mouth-dressing sharpness.
    • Finish
A long-lasting swan song with spicy notes, soft corn, a creamy mouthfeel and a certain dryness at the end. The longer a sip of water-borne mellow corn lingers in the mouth, the sharper it becomes in the finish. Once the palate has become accustomed to the spiciness, the maize takes over again - supported by vanilla and cabbage. Leaves a proper dryness before he is completely gone.

Interesting whiskey, which despite the refill barrels shows a decent oak plank. Something else.
    • Nose
First a barrage of alcohol. Over time, however, comes a nice sweetness, vanilla, light fruit, etaws citrus, sugar and also some slightly dusty oak notes, sawdust.
    • Taste
Strong, slightly herbaceous, light citrus fruit, quite a bit of oak. Very voluminous.
    • Finish
longer, citrus, oak, towards the end some alcohol, ginger and a bitter finish.

Perhaps if she matured a little longer, it would be better ...
    • Nose
Bourbon perfume, vanilla, coconut and perhaps some other fruit.
    • Taste
Corn, plus fruit tones - peaches, apricots + light woody. Unfortunately, alcohol will eventually kill everything reliably
    • Finish
Again vanilla and some woodiness - it still feels alcohol

Mello, summer drink. Not much to offer tasting wise, although may be a good mixer.
    • Nose
Slight fruity notes, a hint of varnish, vanilla, honey and white sugar.
    • Taste
Mellow indeed, light, sweet on apples, pears, citrus fruits, some sugar and a hint of cardboard.
    • Finish
Short, sweet and slightly spicy with pepper, ginger and a hint of mint.

That he only spend two years in barrels? So what? It's a little bit more drunk, but it's worth it. Surprisingly good price / enjoyment ratio. I'm glad I bought this piece, but on the other hand, one bottle is just right.
    • Nose
Bee wax, corn flakes, hint of coconut. Who ever tasted "honey and coconut corn flakes", exactly the smell.
    • Taste
Relatively sharply, but I would not write 50%. Oily with traces of fruit. Alcohol shakes quite a bit, it's generally so harsh.
    • Finish
Here comes the coconut and a slight hint of cornflakes. Oil and fruity tones that have disappeared in taste. In addition, cloves and vanilla light appear.

  20. Georges scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Vanilla, honey, sweet, bananas, spicy, corn, caramel, cinnamon
    • Taste
Spicy, ginger, sweet, vanilla, bananas, apples
    • Finish
      Rather long, vanilla, peppery
