Glen Grant from 1972 can be marvelous. This one is as juicy and smooth as it can get.
    • Nose
Lots of fruit and delicate oak. Also honey and vanilla. Beeswax and mint. Complex
    • Taste
Round and quite waxy. Warm mouthfeel. Juicy sugary maltiness. Oranges and tangerines. Some pepper.
    • Finish
Medium long. Smooth Bitter-sweetness oak. Cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Tasted from a mini
    • Nose

Full burst of honey, antique room with wooden furniture and carpet, slightly sulfurish which is not too bad. After few minutes, some kind of savory, fresh meat notes appear, little bit of grassy too. Somehow the nose makes me feels like I'm a bee sucking nectar from the flower. Lovely.

Yes, the same as the nose suggest, full of honey, also oranges. Some light bitterness, and kind of hot too, for a 48.2%. Some mint, and kind of floral to me. Not really do the nose any justice.
    • Finish
      85 85
Wood bitterness, faint sweetness, and medium long finish. Again, what a let down to the great nose.

Not sure about the nose to be honest, it has a few off notes as if there is a chemical in there.
The palate is quite sweet and hot with a creamy sweet side but again an off note like the sherry has an artificial edge to it.
The finish is no better to be honest, could be sulphur but Its not massive , its just that something is spoiling everything for me.

Another well matured GG. Nice oak, not tannic or exaggerated. Rich fruitiness.
    • Nose
Sherry, honey, vanilla, tropical fruits, spicy oak and coconut.
    • Taste
Matured. Honey, malt, waxy fruits, orange and lemon peel, pepper and mint.
    • Finish
      Medium length, oaky, spicy.

    Whiskyfun:

Glen Grant 38 yo 1972/2011 (48.2%, Malts of Scotland, sherry hogshead, cask #8235, 148 bottles) Some great GGs in 1972, and some less great ones. Colour: gold.

Nose: it could be one of the great ones. Perfect honeyness, with anything from a beehive. Honey, wax, pollen, propolis, wood… I’m a sucker for this style, that’s all I can say.

Mouth: greatest news, it’s not oaky at all, and develops quietly on the same flavours as in the nose, honey and all that. The oranges and a little mint, which could suggest the finish will be oakier…

Finish: it is oakier but everything’s under control. Medium long, on pepper, plum jam, cinnamon and honey.

Comments: maybe not the most complex beast ever but as I said, I’m a sucker for this style. The only problem is that you could down a bottle… inadvertently.

    SGP:541 - 91 points.
