- Rather good indeed.
Clean (no sulphur!) and dry sherry, with a lovely creaminess too, as well as hints of fudge, coffee beans and dark chocolate. Hint of candy hearts as well. Fair amount of aceto balsamico to boot, followed by a whiff of furniture polish and cigar tobacco
Thick and velvety mouthfeel, with a whisper of aniseed, followed by espresso notes and more balsamic, as well as blackcurrants. Despite the high abv, this is dangerously quaffable. Somewhat astringent and slightly spicy too.
Long. Quite spicy, and a tad tannic, with a whisper of ashes.
- Toffee notes, coffee, cognac, cooked caramel, orange peel: the influence of sherry is very strong on the nose. We still feel the alcohol but it disappears after a generous dilution.
The mouth is very powerful from the attack, this dram is not a model of integration. The texture is thick, it is mainly in concentrated caramel coffee.
Very long finish, sticky, always well marked by the coffee with a touch of bigarade.
Quite extreme and monolithic, very good swimmer.
- This cask was split in 3 releases.
The other 2 are
- tasted with JJ
great oloroso fruits like peach, pastry, iron, nuts, oily, woodsmoke and spices - pepper
earthy - mushrooms, spices, sweet sherry and floral - roses
a bit thin with bitter fruits, liquorice and even some ashes
