SMWS Tasting Notes
Colour: Nettle wine
The nose had lots of vanilla (ice-cream, Edinburgh Rock,
American cream soda), along with bacon, tar, medicine cabinets, mild mint and
beach bonfires. The unreduced palate possessed a heart of sweet vanilla
smokiness, with suggestions of burnt newspapers andcreel ropes; the finish
rumbled along endlessly. The reduced nose suggested smoked vanilla pods, wet
beach sand and lobster bisque with a sprig of mint. The reduced palate was
altogether more civilised and mellow, having lost some of its brooding darkness
– smoked pork, mild parma violets and a
spicy heat provided by cumin and cardamom. From the distillery near Port
Askaig.
