  1. Falang scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Aberlour 18 Year Old doesn't arrive with loud sherry fireworks, it comes in with a calm, composed presence: polished oak, raisins, dried fruit, and soft spice arranged with almost architectural neatness. Coherence over chaos. Beautiful whisky but a bit underpowered- give it some air and have a few sips and then it's almost too light weight. But hey, no complaints, very drinkable and very good!
    • Nose
      88 88
Nose opens with familiar sherried tones—raisins, red berries, orange peel, and a gentle dusting of cocoa—like fruit compote left cooling beside a wooden window frame. There’s vanilla oak in the background. Everything smells intentionally balanced, with dried cherries, toffee, and soft chocolate, with a mild spiciness that flickers rather than burns. Coherence over chaos.

Mellow on the tongue. Good taste. An expression with a lot of harmony. It never collapses into cloying sherry sweetness, nor does it drift into austere oak bitterness (luckily)! It sits in the middle, carefully lit and carefully composed. This Aberlour chooses subtlety—and in doing so, occasionally risks being remembered less vividly than its peers. Raisins, leather, cacao, even candied pear. Very smooth and gentle. After some oxidation and a handful sips, it's almost too light - almost a bit watery. So for me, a great whisky, great taste, but missing a tiny bit of body...
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is ok, it doesn’t linger with the authority expected of an 18-year-old malt. Instead it fades in a controlled, slightly drying way, leaving some woody bitters, some cocoa, some oaky tannins, and a faint echo of dried fruit (raisins) with it. Eegant but missing a bit of depth.
